Sacred Treasures of the Basin
The Crane Basin is a land steeped in ancient traditions, which have remained untouched and steadfast due in no small part to their supernatural isolation until recently. The tradition of the Sacred Treasures is yet to be full understood, but the basic tenants of the practice are. Sacred Treasures are the most holy and powerful artifacts of the Basin and play a key role in their lands, their politics, their customs, and their very idea of prestige.
History
The traditions of the Sacred Treasures dates back to the ancient days of the Basin. Though records are on not entirely clear what was the first sacred treasure of the Basin, or who carried it, many and most clans claim that prestige for themselves, but few have the ability to defend their claims well enough.
In those ancient days, during the Time of Pruning, called the Scouring within the hallowed lands of the Basin, the desperate clans were called upon by their patron spirits and Wildes progenitors in order to defend their homeland. For the means to defend their homes, the clans forged the sacred treasures and used them to secure their security against the onslaught of ravenous forces from outside the Basin.
When the age subsided and peace came to the Basin, the sacred treasures became heirlooms of the peoples who carried them, born and forged in great trials, quenched in the blood of the fallen, they would serve as no small trinket as the ages would progress. From then on, to hold a sacred treasure would mean something for the status of the many clans within the Basin as the spirits of the land recoiled into the Wildes to rest and restore their strengths.
From then until now, the sacred treasures remain as powerful artifcats and heirlooms of those ancient days. There is no absolute record of just how many treasures exist, as some clans have more than one, and others have lost theirs, much to their shame. However, the treasures remain a cornerstone to political life within the Basin, despite most clan's proclivity to secrecy surrounding their treasure.
Components and tools
In many cases, the sacred treasures have taken on the form of a tool, weapon, piece of jewelry, or some other accessory to be worn, carried, or held by a privileged member of the respective clan. The process for creating one is not strictly set in stone, as no two treasures are alike, but they can be created in as many ways as can be thought of and an equal number can be made through means yet undiscovered.
Often, it is expected that a spirit of the Basin had some hand in the creation of the treasure, as few being would have the ability to craft such items without their intervention. The giving of blood, bone, or raw mana and ki are all viable options for a spirit to utilize in the crafting of such a treasure.
Observance
Within the Basin, to have a Sacred Treasure is to be anointed both as an individual, but also as a clan. The clans of the Basin are diverse and numerous, but to become a recognized player in the unique game of thrones within the Basin, one must haveĀ Sacred Treasure. It is one of the three key necessities for a clan to reach the status of a Great Clan.
