Steelgray

The Steelgray are a breed of Dire Wolf that is only found in the Northiron Mountains. Unlike most dire wolves, the Steelgray has been domesticated by the dwarven people and used often as riding mounts, guards and companions.   In terms of size, shape and weight, the Steelgray – or Northiron Dire Wolf – is similar to a normal dire wolf. The Steelgray breed has developed to a slightly larger size, with an adult being a little larger than a pony. However, due to the mountainous environment, a Steelgray is a superior climber than a wolf or a normal dire wolf. Unfortunately, this enhanced ability to climb comes at the expense of the breed’s ability to run. The average wolf or dire wolf is slightly faster at running.   The Steelgray gets its name from the fur coloring, which ranges from a white-silver to a mottled steel gray color. Remarkably intelligent, Steelgrays are able to learn extremely complex commands, which is why they are highly prized as guards.   An adult Steelgray dire wolf tends towards 9 feet long and can weigh up to 850 pounds.
