Chapter 20: Night Watch

General Summary

The party was awoken as Lenihlra was stabbed by a dark creature, a Shadow Assassin. Devilishly hard to see, trace, and fight, these creatures were more than a match for the group. Though everyone was hurt, they were able to eventually fight their way to victory.   After examining the creatures, they were able to determine that they were without a soul. This is what gave them their advanced powers. They also contacted Wesley, who told them that though he did not send the assassins, keeping in line with their pact, he thinks it might have been his mother who did.   The group spoke about Wesley and some new information came to light. Wesley is the person who killed Jacquora's mentor many years before. He was a bounty they were after in the northwest and the contract went wrong. Wesley, who was wanted for the murder of a family, escaped.   The next morning, on the 25th, Inhe and Jacquora had the knives they took from the assassins examined by Gal Powers, who told them they were Gray Blades. The potency of the blades could only be unlocked by a soulless creature. By any normal creature, they function as a normal blade. Jacquora kept them and also bought a bandolier with which to hold her slowly building stockpile of weapons. They also arranged for their armor to be upgraded by Gil.   They also ran into Arik, who informed them that he was leaving for Arnsholdi to open a new shop there. He also told them that the kid they rescued early on in their adventures was safe in Ilythyra.   While Inhe and Jacquora did this, Lenihlra was able to ask around and find a pawn shop to sell some items. In Xhosidva, she was able to find The Gold Tin, ran by a person named Kharin. Kharin bought the brooch and directed Lenihlra to a gnome jeweler named Ash who works underneath a dive bar called The Sleeping Dragon. Ash agreed to fashion the large emerald in her possession into 50 smaller pieces of jewelery, 15 medium, and 1 large.   The group reconvened for the night and set their watches for the 26th.
