Chapter 33: The One Where You Didn't Fight a Monster
General Summary
After returning to the material plane through a fey gate at the bottom of a lake, the party found themselves surronded by a monster. Dragging themselves onto shore, they looked around and saw that they were in the center of a large lake surrounded by forest. Jacquora, knowing that something was out there, threw a rock into the lake. Emerging from the water came a huge, serpentine creature. It had thick, scaly skin, long dagger-like teeth, and small flipper-like wings.
With it's first action in the fight, the creature bit, grabbed, and swallowed Jacquora. Aqiatuxl cut her out of the throat of the creature and healed her a bit as she had passed out. A brine shark, summoned by Leon, soon found its end in the jaws of the creature, who seemed a bit annoyed it didn't just get a tasty treat. After a brief moment of turning invisible, the creature, who was sufficiently annoyed at what it thought was going to be an easy meal, left. Wounded and defeated, it disappeared back into the water.
The group swam to the shore and rested a little ways away from the bank. The next day, they headed out through the forest. Gradually, three of the party members forgot about the fight they had just had. To them, they had just emerged from The Feywild into these woods. Jacquora is the only one who remembered. In the mean time, Lenihlra discovered that her magic mailbox was full of notes from Falaern. In total, there were about fourteen letters, each dated around a week apart. The told of happenings in the north, within the city of Ilythyra, updates on Thydona and Linn, and a request to see each other.
The next morning, Falaern visited. She gave them some more updates including the possiblity that the Empire may be heading for Ilythyra. She also told them that Linn was at their disposal. She also told them that she was having trouble tracking down information about Wesley and wasn't sure if either of the names they knew for him was his real name. Finally, she shared that it seemed likely that Olfyra might be captured by the end of summer. She also shared that her cat was named Dagger.
As she left, Jacquora gave Falaern a pair of antlers and she told her that she would use it on a taxidermied pheasant to freak out nobles. Falaern gave Jacquora a small crystal from her horns. Falaern told them it was the fourth of Ruehnar and that around three months had passed.
The party discussed their birthdays as they travelled.
Finally, after another day and a half of travel, they reached Erste Ferry on the banks of the Hrachtorlet River just south of Helvater.
