Baron Arnaud Gagnon

Arnaud Gagnon grew up amid obscene wealth and prosperity, as the Gagnon family exploited and dominated the overland trading routes throughout central Losana. He was afforded every luxury and support he could enjoy, and attended even the Imperial University for a time as he began to enter adulthood and demonstrated an aptitude for mathematics. He was only able to enjoy a few years there, however, as he was recalled home to deal with responsibilities of the family. As the eldest son, he was the heir apparent, and in an effort to oppose the recent push by the Losanan monarchy and the Church to reopen the Sypi River, he was soon assigned the task of mingling with other heirs and lobbying for the efforts to stop. Part of this was a marriage with a woman from a wealthy family in Cairveil.
In actively opposing this measure, Arnauld was branded a heretic and worse by the family's rival and by the Church of the One Sun itself despite his adherence to the faith. He was devastated by this turn, and divorced by his wife, even after she gave birth to his only child. His younger brother killed himself rather than live with the family's shame, and his third brother was killed during the Battle of Spider Bend attempting to redeem the family's honor. With these great losses, Arnauld's father stepped aside as patriarch of the family and Baron, and Arnauld took the title. 
As the new baron, Arnauld has been doing everything to reclaim the family's wealth and reputation, while desperately attempting to keep their lifestyle and status. This has led to an increasing drain on the treasury and the resources of his house. He was able, however, to reconcile with his wife, bringing in some much needed funds. He has kept the dire straits of the family a secret from all but his mother and father, and hopes to find a new avenue to restore the family's once great name and finances.
