Daniel Kneller

Lord Daniel Kneller

Daniel Kneller is the recognized patriarch of House Kneller, one of the primary noble families of the Jakonian Empire. As a young adult he was trained to be a Fighter, receiving a commission in the Jakonian Imperial Army. He was granted full training and refused to take advantage of his noble status to receive lesser punishments and treatment. Through this manner he worked his way up in the ranks, serving in the Imperial Army with distinction. He was disenchanted with the military, however, after being involved in several punitive actions against Nasite rebels in the eastern empire, and chose to resign his commission. From his father's influence, however, he was instead assigned as a military attaché to the Jakonian embassy in Dahlonega.   During his time in the Mersan Union, Daniel witnessed the various techniques and methods of mountain and naval warfare. He returned home after the Opella War, seeking to involve himself more with governance and the politics of the empire, bringing back with him a Mersan wife, to the great scandal of his family. Despite the marriage, his return was welcomed, and he was immediately put to work as surveyor throughout the Villages, helping the halflings establish defensive works and provide advice on protecting their lands against invasion. He was appreciated by the locals for his efforts, gaining him much support among the halflings.    After the death of his father in 1018 AF, Daniel took the reins of the family, and was recognized as the new Lord of the Villages. He took his duties seriously, but soon became allies with House Wooding, hoping to build closer ties with the family and in 1035, oversaw the marriage of his daughter to one of the sons of Ebenezer Wooding. The two families have been closer together, in a strong alliance to protect the power of the nobility against the risk of centralization by the imperial throne. Daniel has often spoke loudly against corruption in the Imperial Army, calling for reforms and further weakening of the central state.
