House Labasque
House Labasque is the wealthiest aristocratic family in the Kingdom of Losana. Thanks to its position as the preeminent lords of the city of Cairveil, the Battle of Spider Bend has opened up their home to the highly lucrative Sypi River trade routes coming from the Circle Sea. With control over the Door and the harbor of the city, the family has been able to enforce taxes upon traders and citizens alike, collecting more gold than any others in the nation. The wealth has been translated into ever vaster holdings of land, and they retain grants to use the south side of the Sypi River if such an endeavor ever occurs. These assets have been turned into a highly influential position as they continued to jet upwards through power and society in leaps and bounds.
Public Agenda
The Labasques have only been recently propelled to the forefront of Losanan politics. The rediscovery of the undercity of Cairveil and the opening of the Sypi River to commerce have brought a dramatic change in the family's fortunes. The wealth brought by trade and new knowledge has caused the family to start to build new ties with the Free City of Riveraineville and the opportunities it has brought into the interior. They have positioned themselves as the strongest rival to House Aucoin and the Royal Family. In theory they are loyal supporters and allies of the Church of the One Sun, but in practice, they have claimed to support the old traditions of the Losanan people, and followers of the old ways have in the past received support and shelter from the family.
Assets
The majority of gold that has recently poured into Cairveil has ended up in the vaults and treasuries of the Labasques and their estates. Although much have that has been channeled into development and growth, they have literally been unable to spend the money they have made over the past decades as quickly as they've received it. This has bought them the loyalty of a powerful cadre of soldiers, regularly employing entire Kiralyno dwarven clans to protect their growing trade fleets. They now possess nearly direct ownership of all lands around Cairveil itself, and immense estates throughout the rest of Losana. They even own other properties and businesses in Jakonia, the Bahami Federation, and Bamard.
