Iirada

Iirada is the smallest settlement on Andros Island. More of a fortification than a true town, it exists as a safe harbor for corsairs raiding against the mainland to the west. The port is easily defended and protected, and close to the old shrines of the island's djinn. The majority of corsairs of Andros operate from Iirada, even if they live in Andros most of the time. The port therefore is flooded with weapons and loot, from all across Emicara.

Demographics

The population of Iirada consists almost entirely of Bahami humans, with only a handful of catfolk laborers for unloading ships of plundered goods from the raids. Non-Bahami humans and other races are not welcome in Iirada, as most are believed to be spies or observers that could act against the interests of Andros. The area is treated as a military base, and nearly everyone who resides here is either a corsair or someone who provided logistical support for them.

Government

There is no official governance of Iirada, and it is a ramshackle community without any real organization or structure. The exception to this are the substantial fortifications and walls that surround the town. These are commanded by the Prince of Iirada, who is in direct control of the local House Haxhi garrison and the defenders assigned by the Mukarrib of Andros. These military forces are the only official government and detain anyone who causes issues or crime.

Defences

The entire town is surrounded by a stone fortification with rocks quarried from the neighboring mountains. The walls expand and encompass the harbor itself, and large chains were constructed over the "water gate" which enable he town's garrison to pull them up and deny entry into the harbor by invading forces. Each of the towers along the walls have modern and well built siege weapons, and while they are not able to quite match Jakonian technology, they have well built ballistae and trebuchets to hurl boulders at approaching enemy vessels. The garrison of the town consists of a fully staffed mercenary band raised by House Haxhi, consisting of 120 guards, but in the case of attack, all corsairs at harbor are obligated to join in the defense, which can lead to anywhere from an addition 500 to 2,000 people joining in the defense.

Infrastructure

The main centers of architecture and development are the fortifications that have been put in place to protect the settlement's harbor. Outside of these walls, the only real feature of organized construction are the docks and drydocks that have been assembled. These facilities are locally owned and meant strictly for emergency repairs and refitting after a raid. The roads in the town are shoddy dirt paths that flood easily during storms, and most of the homes have been built on elevated foundations or stilts to avoid similar flooding. There is no formal plan or organization to the madness, as homes were built essentially wherever people wanted to build them, and the anarchy of the town layout never subsided.

Assets

There are numerous markets and inns that populate Iirada, which mostly exist to serve and accommodate corsairs returning from raids. Places for corsairs leaving their ships are widely available, including rental homes for those recovering from serious injuries. The markets themselves offer a bounty of stolen goods and weapons from across Emicara, selling both to those seeking the finest goods stolen from mainlander ships and those coming off the ships looking for trophies.
