Isaac Brockett
Governor-General Isaac Brockett
Isaac Brockett was born in the heart of the Free City of Capcora. Called to a sea at a young age, he was born as the third son in a family of upper middle class merchants and lenders in the city. He was afforded every luxury and outlet for a life upon the open seas, and he chose to become a cabin boy on several of his family's ships and vessels. In 1009, he was given his first command, the family merchant vessel, the Stately Stag. He was offered independent command of this ship, and while he did spend a few years simply trading goods, he was restless with simple merchant enterprise. He invested much of his own wealth into the ship's armaments, and became a pirate hunter. He achieved surprising success, being awarded numerous bounties by the Lord Mayor for his victories against Bahami corsairs.
Even the fame and glory of pirate hunting proved not enough for Isaac's ambition. Despite the fame he brought his family, he chose to take the Stately Stag into uncharted waters, exploring the world and finding new lands. He is said to have travelled all around the Circle Sea, fighting off Riveraineville privateers and making contact with the barbaric people of other lands. He would occasionally return home with secretive maps and charts, selling unique and magnificent goods to the public. He made his crew swear an oath of silence to protect their findings while in port.
The true test and challenge to Isaac came from the Endless Ocean. Constantly looking east, beyond the Bahami Federation, Isaac endeavored to gain support for an expedition. Most common scholarly thought assumed that such an enterprise was suicidal, with the best case scenario spending months or years only to reach the giant lands of Emicara and being slain or enslaved. Others instead assumed that any such expedition would simply sail on indefinitely until food ran out or the ship finally fell to the elements.
Eager to see their more famous brother gone, Isaac's older siblings ultimately agreed to finance the expedition, and he departed eastward through the Bahami Federation, fending off corsairs and other rivals in 1037 AF. To the shock of nearly half of his crew and those he sent magical communication back to in Capcora, after only five months of sailing, he reached an unfamiliar coast, fighting his way through harsh storms. He sailed along the coast for several years, and ultimately determined the land to be uninhabited with no signs of ports, harbors, or more importantly, giants. He marked out a location for a port and returned home to Capcora.
Upon reaching his home port, Isaac was rewarded with an honorary doctorate form the University of Capcora and numerous accolades and a medal from the Lord Mayor himself. At the pressure of his family, Isaac was appointed the Governor-General of the newly discovered lands and sent back east, with a small ship and contingent of settlers. Some claim that he is unable to be parted with his loyal crew of the Stately Stag, and views this as an exile rather than an honor.
