Elf

A long lived humanoid race with slender features and pointed ears.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves stood on average 5′4″‒6′0″ and weighed 130‒170 lbs . Elves are a naturally slender and athletic race. Elves have a similar range of complexions to humans, with hues of coppery or pale skin to darker pigmentations typically seen in the southern parts of the continent. Often, elven hair is dark, either brown or black, with copper red, blond, orange or even green hues being uncommon but not completely unheard of. Elven eyes are commonly brown, hazel, or an emerald green. Elves, like their cousins the eladrin, are fair and beautiful, handsome, and have pointed ears and no body hair except eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair.

Biological Traits

Interestingly enough many scholars have noted that the Díne elves of Taur-na-Chardhîn on average tend to be on the shorter end of the spectrum and lighter as well. Many scholars have debated over this, and the most common theory is that it is because they maintain a traditional lifestyle in the trees and thus it is biologically advantageous for them to be smaller.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves mature at roughly the same rate as humans, though they're not usually considered past adolescence until they reached 110 years of age. Unlike humans, elves do not age dramatically as their lifespan comes to a close, with the most obvious changes being a change in hair color, alternatively graying or darkening. Most elves remain healthy and full of life up until their death, which, if age-related, is usually between two and nine centuries.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Elves may be found in every part of the continent, and are the most prolific race second to humans. Their largest concentrations however are in Taur-na-Chardhîn, Taur-en-Faroth, and Nan Elmoth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Abilities

Elves have a number of abilities that set them apart from other humanoid races. Like their kin the eladrin, elves are agile, dexterous creatures. However, elves can move slightly faster than their eladrin kin and can move swiftly through even the roughest terrain. Elves are also more preternaturally aware of their surroundings than eladrin. Additionally, elves were extremely accurate in their attacks, having a degree of precision that would be unusual for other humanoids. Many elves do not sleep, instead finding their rest in a meditative state called "reverie", which is as restful as true sleep but leaves them aware of their surroundings, similar to an eladrin's ability to enter a trance.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The southern region known as Taur-na-Chardhîn is comprised almost solely of elves, and the Eldamar Kingdom to the north is as well. In the east the Myrdin Empire is not considered to be an elven country however it is the third largest population of elves and has been ruled by an elven monarch since its inception so that point is debatable.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Elvish is the second most spoken language on the continent behind common. Regional dialects have been observed in the Díne and the Eldar elves but they are still easily understood by most speakers. Due to their similarities many scholar have posited that elvish may be a child language of sylvan that evolved through its time on the material plane.
