Promise of Freedom
Zarenians were originally a peaceful group. Timid and reserved, they are practitioners of conflict avoidance. Then the Alanuans discovered their mountainous riches and forced their hand.
Violence was the Alanuan's solution to dissent. The more aggressive or pragmatic sold into slavery, sent back to Alanue in chains, or killed, all to quell opposition. Women were especially vulnerable.
Repeated petitions for improved conditions did nothing but amass empty promises. Fed up with abuse, the Zarenians took notes from their conquerors, and thus, the theft and sabotage began.
Different factions worked separately to undermine Alanuan productivity with no set goal in mind. It wasn't until renegade Casbarians successfully cut off the slave trade that things began turning for the worst.
During this time, Brandon had fled Zarenia and found his way to Alanue where he enrolled (by accident) in the Alanuan Academy. Witnessing the atrocious treatment of slaves there refueled his desire for freedom. Unable to physically do anything in case he blew his cover, Brandon sent Alanuan information and technology back home.
Daniel Carona would befriend and unite all the rebel factions under the Promise of Freedom. The Promise killed or expelled all the remaining Alanuans, freeing Zarenia from captivity. The Alanuan capital was unable to send reinforcements in time due to their great distance.
The goal of the Promise now is to ensure Zarenia's security, independence, and sovereignty. No longer desiring autocratic rule where dictators dismissed their subjects' concerns, they formed the Council of Seven, where an elected representative from each faction could advance and discuss issues.
