Kelemvor, Lord of the Dead

Despite his fearful countenance and frightful domain, Kelemvor, as god of Death and the Dead, acts more of a guide to the afterlife than lofty judge. Kelemvor seeks to teach mortals that death is as natural as life, with all beings destined for both. While only officially in the Human Pantheon, all mortals recognize Death, even if they do not know of him as Kelemvor. The Death Lord despises the Undead, however, viewing them as perversions of the natural order of the universe. He is rumored to have once been a mortal, who usurped his position from the cold and callous former Lord of the Dead, but scholars disagree whether he supplanted his predecessor or works alongside it. Kelemvor opposes any force that seeks to cause upheaval in the balance of the universe, be they mortals, gods or fiends. Kelemvor helps the newly dead find their way to their afterlife, and takes offense at any who dispute his judgements. That being said, Kelemvor allows souls to change their position even in death, and does not interfere with true resurrections. Kelemvor appears as a figure clad in robes and chainmail, with a wide belt set with a cat’s eye jewel in the front.
