Sylvanus, the Oakfather
The god of Wild Nature, is worshiped one way or another by all peoples who respect the wilds, but humans know him as Sylvanus. Before Sylvanus, the only living creatures on the Material Plane were those directly created by the gods. Sylvanus convinced various flora and fauna from the divine realms to travel to the Material Plane and spread across existence. At first, few plants or animals followed him, but when the Great Oak spread his roots on the Material Plane, the others came soon after. Sylvanus promoted both Nature’s beauty and its savagery, both growth and decay, balancing all. When mortals began migrating to the Material Plane, Sylvanus welcomed them, until they began disrupting his balance. Sylvanus very rarely regards mortals in any fashion, unless they either threaten wild places, or defend its natural beauty. Sylvanus exhibits particular wrath on those that would use fire carelessly. While he knows fire is a part of Nature in many ways, when mortals lose control of it, it is often at the detriment of Nature. Some scholars, particularly Elven scholars, believe Sylvanus was once an Archfey, before becoming a god. The Green Father rarely presents himself as any distinct mortal species, however, and other species regard the belief that he has a Fey origin as merely superstition. Sylvanus takes many forms, depending on his mood, but usually presents himself as the Horned Hunter, a tall humanoid clad in nought but a loin cloth, with shaggy brown fur, almost barklike in texture, with stag antlers growing from his head, and wielding a stone tipped spear.
