Church of Illumination

The Church of Illumination is one of the few organisations that have outlived the Empire. Relatively benign during Imperial Days, the Church grew like wildfire after the Coming of the Comet. It was around the Church of Illumination that many people rallied during times of need, and it was at the Archdeacon's orders that the massacre of the Elves began.

The Church is all about giving back control. The people are restless, they fear the night, they feel as if they lack direction or control over their own lives. The Church gives them that control through faith. They practically yearn to be shepherded towards salvation. We begin by taking back the land that belongs to us and ridding ourselves of those who betrayed our God. Kill the Elves, kill them all.

Today, the Church is based in the holy city of Pellas within the Basiilica of Luminor, itself a reconstruction of the Basilica in Qa'Adaq (previously Aes). Its influence stretches across of Albion, and it receives countless of pilgrims every year. The power of the Church is unchallenged and unassailable.

Mythology & Lore

Not all 11,110 verses of the Church have been memorised and passed down the generations ever since its founding, many were added as time passed, particurlarly after the Coming of the Comet. They tell of Luminor and his blinding light, and his victories over other, false gods during the early times of the world. These gods were still worshipped during the times of the Empire, and this worship partially resulted in the Comet as Luminor's punishment and wrath.
After the Comet came, many more verses were added denouncing the Elves and their false gods too. The final verses deal with the fate of the world, and its ultimate death at the hands of evil due to the sins committed by good folk.

Divine Origins

The Cult of Illumination was first founded during the Imperial Era, during an unknown age of upheaval against the Elves. The cult later became the Church of Illumination after the Coming of the Comet which marked its rise to power. Several sister organisations have been founded in the time since, including The Inquisition and the Order of the Rising Sun.

Cosmological Views

The Church maintains in its verses that the Sun is Luminor made manifest, and the phases of the moon the disc that the Night attempts to cover him with. It is accepted fact that the World revolves around the Lord Luminor, for everything does.

Tenets of Faith

The tenets of the Church are sprinkled in among its early verses. It is often an early test for children whether they know all core tenets by which the faith operates:

1. Luminor is the Lord of Light, Lord of Life, and Lord of Wisdom.
2. Fire is Luminor made manifest in places his light does not reach.
3. The Night and creatures of it are Luminor's nemesis.

The Church of Illumination's symbol is the Watchful Eye of Luminor
