Rivenlock

Demographics

Rivenlock is home to a majority human population. However there are large groups of both Coastal Dwarves and Sea Elves . There is a large lower class population in the city due to reliance on trade and factory workers.

Government

Rivenlock is ruled by Annabelle Hawthorne the duchess of Rivenlock. While generally seen as a kind and benevolent ruler she has imposed many strict laws restricting the use of magic within her demesne.

Defences

Two large keeps protect the city. Each one standing on either side of the river. in addition a large wall surrounds the city.

Industry & Trade

Imports and exports are the main trade in Rivenlock. most of the city works either at the river docks or in factories that supply goods for trade.

Infrastructure

Rivenlock is a city built on trade. The river provides transportation up from the coast. All trade must pass through Rivenlock before heading further upstream to the capital of Highmark . In addition the recently built train line to Clearwater has allowed for even more trade and the flow of commerce into the city has seen huge growth in the past few months. Three large bridges connect the eastern and western parts of the city. Two of which can be raised to allow large ships to pass through. The central bridge, only recently built, was constructed high enough to allow all but the largest ocean dwelling ships to pass under it.

History

The city of Rivenlock remained small and unnoticed until rather recently. With the invention of the steam engine the city was allowed to expand and grow due to being a middle man for all trade.

Architecture

The majority of buildings in Rivenlock are made from brick or stone in the classical Alterian style.
