Ricusa City

Defences

High stone walls form protective rings separating the city into three layers, and the ground itself raised as it reached the centre.

Districts

The city is separated into 8 districts, North, South, East and West Upper and Lower Districts. Within the 3rd wall layer is the hill itself, Rica.

History

Ricusa City was originally a walled town during the Silver Age, the capital being further north. In 572 Silver Age, King Oliver ordered the capturing of a Raven Giant and was brought to the town. They couldn't understand their language, and locked her up underground in a stone chamber.   In 600 SA, the town grew exponentially, and due to the destruction of the previous capital, was promoted to the new one. The second ring of walls were constructed a short duration prior, and two famous brothers moved in - Archon & Vargo.   In 711 Golden Age, 4 of Octenvil, Bor'othan, a demon overlord, reached the city in his ongoing invasion. The walls were broken down and the two legendary brothers - Archon and Vargo - were killed. They had spoke of being great heroes that would trounce him and his forces back to the Demonhollow. Yet for all their talk they were quickly killed by Bor'othan with very little resistance, and so Ricusa City fell to the demons like much else before it. They had attacked from the mountains, ravaging the walled city from above and on the ground, few putting up a fight.   At the start of Deboroth, the people began their reconstruction of their homes. The invasion was but a setback for the capital, as it grew thereafter dramatically. It was during 724 GA where the third ring of walls was built, making the capital have three layers of circular walls. The icon of Ricusa was changed to be purple and red with a crest of three ever-enclosing rings, along with a line down the middle: known as the Purled Mark.   In 790 GA, the Cusan Mining Company dug a connection into Toshaw Hollow within Ricusa Mine, causing an influx of Undead to swarm the mines and force them into neglect. The Cusan Mining Company were later abolished and rebranded.   In 1440 Platinum Age, a lady of the Upper District - Octavia von Gailon - was found dead in an alleyway. Edwin Tarrenfall, her lover, was presumed dead shortly after. In his grave, his soul inverted from grief and became Soulless. The grief and sadness empowered him into a monstrous mass of shade and he breached the grave. It was on this day that the Holy Knight was visiting the capital, who saw the mass and with a raised hand destroyed it; sending Edwin's soul into the Soulless Caverns.   In 1516 Platinum Age, King Bathan of Ricusa and one of his friends wished to challenge the rumours of the Nameless Moorlands, and disappeared. Overlord Ryare took over his place as King.   In 1520, The Holy Knight would come to visit the capital once more and encounter Zephos Dewarm and Daerel Foremaul the morning after they had attempted to clear Ricusa Mine and offer help. Afterwards, he walked to Redford Castle to discuss topics with Overlord Ryare. During this year, Reyner Coldtrap had worked his men into the units of guards and watchmen, devising a plan to kill Shúrkka, the Raven Giant that was captured a thousand years ago. He would slay Renard Riveroak in Toshaw Hollow and hunt after the two boys Holy Knight helped.   On the 19th of Octenvil, Reyner would be imprisoned and slay the Raven Giant, escaping with his magic thanks to a corrupt guard cuffing him with non-hexxed shackles. And on the next year, 3rd of Pathix, the Raven Giants laid waste to the capital, claiming the kingdom as their own.

Architecture

"Even at such a height the towers loomed tall like ever-present sentinels of stone. Flags of purple and red stripes swayed solemnly in the calm air, bound to tiles of lavender hue, shining like amethyst in the sunlight. Past the cliff-view gate there lay a bailey crowded with the wealthiest of the city, and beyond was another wall containing a courtyard, and even further: the keep."
- On Redford Castle
In the lower districts, houses of wood, stone, wattle-and-daub, and plaster are common, with the materials growing in quality the closer to the centre. In the upper districts, houses were made of finer materials and were covered in more vibrant paints; two-storey houses are the norm here, whereas in the outer walls bungalows were plentiful.

Geography

"Beyond the walls towards the south he saw the golden fields of the outskirts and the Baril Mountain Ranges which divided the King’s County and Basil Providence. Even further, across the horizon protruded like colossal spikes the Perica Mass - a hundred kilometre blanket of mountains hiding the Greenfool Wetlands and the rainforests of Curusa."
- The Holy Knight's View Atop Rica
Ricusa City is surrounded by plains, wheat fields, and small forests. To the north lies Grenrath Covert, the twin villages of Lefwood and Rigwood, and the fort village of Ranora. To the east lies a scarce stumpland, Earla Pastures, and River Rissa. On the road there are three villages, Stulca, Yelca, and Waville. To the west lies the Battlefield of Rule, the western Shallow Woods, and a lake village known as Luka. The road leads out of King's County into Basil Providence, passing through the West Twins - towers stationed on the edges of the Baril mountain range. Finally, to the south lies the Shallow Woods and Ricusa Mine, along with the secret path through Baril Ranges used by nobles.
