The Eraphmic Pantheon

Across the world of Eraphim a number of deities, spirits and entities hold power over mortals, are worshiped and strike fear. But only 6 of them are powerful enough to truly be called Gods. This is the Eraphimic Pantheon, six gods that have persisted through time and each represent one or more important aspects of the world. They are worshiped across the world in as many different forms as there are mortals to worship them, each with their own unique view of what the god is to them. A god of the pantheon is not a person or a creature, they are more akin to a force of the universe. They are an intangible, diffuse being made from the energy of a concept given a will and the power to shape the universe. What one mortal worship as the god of intelligence and learning may well be the goddess of the moon, stars and dreams to another, none of the mortals are wrong in their belief, both of them are right. The vast power and expanse of the gods is hard for mortals to grasp and to attempt to summarise what any one god of the pantheon is will fail to see the wider picture, that picture being that the gods do not have distinct borders between their realms of divinity. Two gods may both hold divinity over the sky, a third may be both god of the moon and of death, just as a third is symbolised by the stars but is worshiped as a goddess of knowledge.   So it is that many of the cultures of Eraphim worship the gods in their aspects, choosing a form or function that they relate to and can pray to for aid, blessing or power. In one nation the god may hold a different name, but a similar aspect of divinity. In another, their aspect may be vastly different, but their name is the same.

Summary

The belief in "The Six" is by far the largest religion in Kingdom of Evangil , and a prominent religion in Andelifa as well.   Within Evangil, only the Eraphmic Pantheon is officially approved by the Crown. Although other beliefs aren´t outlawed it is rare to find a temple to any other deities in any but the larges cities. Most towns and villages will have a temple dedicated to the Six where locals can worship, receive healing and advice from priest. The smallest of villages and some farmsteads, mines and outposts have their own small shrine, usually only dedicated to one deity, for the god that resonates with the people of that area the most. A town hall might have a small shrine to Bahamut to bring about law and order to the town, while a mine might have shrines to both Auril and Railla for venturing into the dark is a dangerous business, and to many Evangilites caverns, mines and tunnels represent a step closer to the afterlife. As such both gods are seen as watchers over underground and the patrons of miners and explorers who go spelunking in the dark. Just like this gods are worshiped in tandem or triplets all across the world to cover more specific areas of patronage.   It is not entirely uncommon to find clerics and temples dedicated to a pair or triad of gods, usually referred to as a "Duality" or "Triskelion". A devout paladin who channels arcane magic in the service of his kingdom might pray to the Duality of Mystra and Bahamut for example, while a druid in service to the circle of life, death and rebirth could pray to a Triskelion of Lathander, Railla and Auril.   The Six are comprised of the following deities, listed are their names, titles and their area of power:
  • Mystra - The Spellweaver
  •
  • Lathander - The Sunfather
  •
  • Bahamut - The Platinum dragon
  •
  • Auril - The Wildmother
  •
  • Raila - The Raven Queen
  •
  • Tyrmantor - The Last Standing

Variations & Mutation

Although not widely worshiped in most civilized parts of Evangil, two neutral gods representing luck and tempest respectively claim a few followers throughout the wild lands and and more chaotic parts of the world: Trickster god Aramis, often worshiped by bards, thieves and gamblers; God of Tempest Yjongmir is often prayed to by tribes and people of the wild for protection against the elements, they are worshiped as much in fear as in respect. Known as Yjongmir in the cold North and as Imiir in the temperate south, his worship is found mainly in island settlements. Little is known of the god of tempests, as he rarely communicates with his followers.      Lastly, there is one whoms worship is outright taboo and is outlawed in much of the civilized world even outside Evangil. Having no remembered name, for the gods deemed his crimes to great for him to be remembered,The Death King rules the Abyss and Nine Hells. He is the lord of corruption and evil, the patron of torturers and the master of slaughter. His worship is one of dark prayer, sacrifice and summoning of demonic power, and loath by all.
