Stretching from the glittering shores of the
Halcyian Ocean in the west to the eastern slopes of the
Calico Mountains , the Kingdom of Evangil is a powerful nation of trade, development and military might, tempered by devotion to the
The Eraphmic Pantheon .
The Kingdom of Evangil is a monarchy, the current ruler being Queen Learal Silverhand, first of her name.
Since 1450 the monarch of Evangil is supported and kept in check by a council of lords, a direct result of the infighting and succession crises that plagued the kingdom in the centuries prior.
Having stood strong in one way or form for over a 1500 years, the nation of Evangil can be traced back to the ancient city of
Elustria and its predecessor Elizas Landing, where settlers once set first foot circa 1800 years ago. In fact, the Evanielian calendar stems from this historic moment, it is said that a profet named Eliza lead a group of settlers here from the north, escaping from frigid temperatures and demons left behind by the God Wars. According to legend they where guided by The Six through the careful hands of Eliza the Wise south, through the mountains in the north and the forests beyond, to eventually settle down on the shores of
Lake Montoya. The settlers put down their walking staffs in a circle on the shore of the lake, close to where their village would be built, and vowed to never forget the gods who lead them to this land. It is from this point that the people of Evangil would count their years, with the landing as year 0.
The staffs would later be replaced with stone pillars, and although they have been worn down over the centuries they can still be seen standing proud in the center of Eliza Square in Elustria.
300 years later one of Elizas descendants named
Queen Liara Iwould become the first Queen of Evangil with the establishment of Elustria as a true citystate, and a power to be reckoned with.
Depending on where in Evangil the crime is committed, different forms of judgment are employed. In cities and larger towns, as well as for nation wide crime or special cases, the Judges and Magistrates of the Halls of Judgment are called upon. The magistrates handle smaller crimes and are authorized to judge smaller crimes on site, as well as moderate offenses in district courts on fairly shot notice. For more severe crime, or highly disputed cases, the Judges at the actual Hall of Judgment take over, analyzing evidence, questioning witnesses and holding trial, often open to the public.
In smaller rural towns and most villages, the business of justice is handed on to the mayor, who in turn commonly passes it on to a local jury and judge composed of trusted locals. If the crime is very severe, or highly disputed, the smaller towns can call upon help from the nearest Hall of Judgment, who will either send out representatives or schedule a trial at the Hall itself.
