Grey Elf

Grey Elves lived in the forests of Mithdor, a wooded area south of the elven lands of Sielen. They were a subrace of High Elves.

Description

Standing nearly as tall as humans, grey elves had tall, slim builds and pale grey skin. Their hair was silvery white or pale golden, with amber or violet eyes.   All members of this race tended to favor bright gold, silver, yellow, or white garments. In terms of cloaks, they most often wore deep shades of blue or purple.

Personality

Grey elves tended to be arrogant and believed themselves superior to other races, including elven races. They considered themselves to be the purest form of elf. Of course, there were exceptions.   They were also knowledgeable, and this was valued very highly.

Society

Grey elves were mostly reclusive, tending to keep to themselves in their forests and viewing it as independence from a corrupting outside world. They spent much of that time seeking scholarly pursuits.   Their societies were very rigidly defined, hereditary monarchies. Personal freedom was not valued, and movement was carefully restricted, with citizens divided into a caste system.   Their artisans could make items that could hold strong enchantments, and they were mainly focused on creating powerful amulets and spellbooks.

Relationships

Grey elves are the least tolerant of other races and rarely associate with other non-elven humanoids for long or frequent periods of time. They feared the possibility of other races tainting their bloodlines.   Their focus on the intellectual arts left them in need of servants for menial and physical labor, and they tended to use other elves. They were not mistreated, but they were severely punished for failure.   Grey elves would sometimes allow certain outsiders into their cities, usually powerful wizards, but even then they were treated with caution and suspicion.

Religion

Grey Elves were followers of the siblings Lauxa and Varalic who helped them rise into glory. They taught the elves magic and subterfuge and helped raise them into a civilization when they became lost after their fall as dragonriders.   Varalic's daughter Pelesa was also a minor deity to those who found a love in music and the arts.
