The Adamant Wolves
"Out of all the outlaws and bandits that try to tear down the greatness that the Venatorian Empire stands for, the Adamant Wolves are the most well known, and make the most noise. When they come to Venator Terminus, they try to find places to strike out against the Empire, but all they will find are the crosses that I so generously provide them." ~Vel Garvrus, Procurator of Venator Terminus. The Adamant Wolves are a group of outlaws and freedom fighters who travel throughout the Venatorian Empire, trying to weaken the state's hold on their settlements and the people within them. The Adamant Wolves were founded and led by Autolycus, a demigod son of Hermes, or Mercury as he is known to the Venatorians.
Structure
The Adamant Wolves are led by Autolycus, a famous thief and troublemaker hailing from the island kingdom of Ithaca. His cunning nature and his tendency to cause mischief are inherited from his father, the Olympian God Hermes. His charisma make him a compelling leader, to earns the loyalty of his men by empathizing with them and promising to tear apart the oppressive regime of Vigilo Angelius. A skilled fighter and cunning strategist, Autolycus leads the Adamant Wolves with great efficiency, and can create a sense of awe in friends and foes alike by using the abilities he possesses thanks to his status as a demigod.
August Myr was an Areite left for dead by his comrades after being mauled by a swarm of Birch-Bugs while they were travelling up Stone Axe Mountain. While on the brink of death, he was found by Autolycus, shortly after he had come to the mainland of Eregost. Autolycus managed to treat August's wounds, saving his life. Ever since that moment, the two have been close friends, with August Myr being the first one to join Autolycus on his quest to liberate the people of the Venatorian Empire. August Myr is Autolycus' most trusted companion, and often aids him in the planning of heists and political stunts. August Myr is an archer with uncanny aim, which he often uses to entertain his comrades and terrify his foes. He is capable of knocking a single feather off of a hawk as it flies by, or shoot at an enemy's arrow mid-flight, preventing it from hitting its target.
Caranthir of Spartach is a druid who used to belong to Clan Spartach before the clan's destruction in 1322. Caranthir managed to survive the slaughter, but due to seeing all his friends and family butchered by the Venatorian Legions, instead of making a new life for himself, he decided to hurt the Empire as much as possible before they manage to kill him. He joined the Adamant Wolves as he believes that cooperation will allow them both to cause as much havoc for the Emperor as possible. Caranthir cares not for his own life, and cares very little about the lives of his comrades, but his druidic powers make him a valuable asset, and his knowledge of the wilderness is second to none.
Public Agenda
The Adamant Wolves wish to incite a rebellion against the Venatorian Empire. They do this by proving that no one is untouchable, and that the from peasant to Procurator, nobody is free from the consequences of their actions. They try to humiliate Venatorian officials whenever possible, mostly through robbery and vandalism, though they are not above killing those who try to stop them and occasionally make attempts on the lives of the more powerful officials within the Venatorian Empire.
Assets
There are over seventy members in the Adamant Wolves, though they rarely all travel together. Their ranks are made up of conmen, thieves, bandits and freedom fighters. Each member is an experienced criminal, and is considered dangerous to the Venatorian Authorities.
The Adamant Wolves have been gathering a substantial amount of wealth over the past few years, thanks to the robberies they have performed across Venatorian Territory. They often distribute this wealth to civilians, though they do keep a portion of it for themselves.
History
After the demigod Autolycus was brought to the mainland of Eregost by his father, Hermes, he decided to travel West, eventually seeing the Venatorian Empire for himself and being disgusted by the authoritarian regime that he saw. He quickly got to work trying to bring humility to the Venatorian government in the only ways he knew: trickery and theft. After running from the law in Venator Mercurious, he went south, to Stone Axe Mountain, where he would find an Areite at the brink of death. This Areite was August Myr, and after Autolycus saved his life, the two became fast friends, and then partners-in-crime. As their bounties grew, so did their infamy. They eventually began to attract other outlaws and dissidents to their cause. They became the Adamant Wolves.
Throughout the years, the Adamant Wolves have committed treason against the Venatorian Empire in many new and dangerous ways. From robbing casinos in Venator Fortuna, to ambushing Venatorian officials on the road so that they could tar and feather them. In 1324, the Adamant Wolves attempted to assassinate Vel Garvrus, the Procurator of Venator Terminus. This assassination attempt went poorly, and eight members of the Adamant Wolves were killed by her Praetorian Guard, Tiberius Florens, at the scene of the crime. Another three members of the Adamant Wolves were arrested and later crucified. Tiberius Florens even managed to wound Autolycus with a throwing knife, but the latter fled before things escalated further.
Military
Armed to the teeth and highly experienced, every member of the Adamant Wolves is a formidable opponent, though some are far more enthusiastic with the prospect of a fight than others. The exact nature of their prowess differs, from marksmanship, to swordplay, to arcane knowledge to stealth. Some are clerics in service to gods, others are skilled warriors and thieves. August of Myr is an Oathbreaker Paladin who has forsaken his oath to Areism.
Religion
While the gang itself is not officially religious, many members worship Hermes and Dionysus. Hermes is worshipped due to being a trickster god of theft, and Dionysus is worshipped due to being a god closely associated with revolutions and liberty, not to mention that the majority of the Adamant Wolves enjoy drinking.
