Evestrian Government
A people "newly" (yr 124) arrived to the continent, heavily dependent on Planar magic, particularly Spatial affinity, which has a very high presentment rate among their people. They have learned to tie portal magic to physical structures (gates) that they use to transport trade goods. Evestrians are a Republic ruled by elected representatives. They are not very militaristic, and the Exarchs, their military leaders have very little political power (their most interesting unit focuses on the Spatial Magic of Summoning, an affinity of Planar Magic). Summoning has many other practical uses as well for the government and the people- like bringing in Daniya for construction projects. They place a great value on being born with magical Gifts, thus non-gifted candidates are rather unlikely to be elected to office.
Evestria is ruled by a council of elders (Representatives) selected by the people from the aristocracy and two co-executives (Consuls) selected from any citizen. Members of aristocratic families hold the title Archon.
The Evestrian people migrated (fled) from Evenaria on the Eastern Continent when the religion of their home country (Seese Pantheon) was replaced with the worship of a One God that was intolerant of magic. Due to this, the Evestrians enacted a “good neighbor” policy on their new continent (mostly it was meant to keep an eye on things and avoid a repeat of the East), where they endeavor to keep envoys with all of the nearby nations. Pelee, Renamos, and the Spiran of Taris welcomed the emissaries, and the Evestrian influence led to increased communication among the four countries. The ambassadors sent to Nemel were rebuffed several times until Archon Epaphus was finally accepted in 244; he was the first outsider accepted into their court in 200 years. A formal Embassy could not be established with Ushann due to their decentralized government; emissaries are sent seasonally on goodwill tours of the main villages and to stay at The Garden during the Marq. An embassy could not be established with Nidavir, but the Night Markets are welcomed in Evestria and used as an opportunity to strengthen ties with their people.
