Joran
Joran is the god of balance, and the judge who decides the fate of your soul when your body dies. Keeping balance, Joran is the god of war and peace and in this aspect wields two swords, the obsidian sword of darkness, "Everything", and, "Nothing", the diamond sword of light.
Joran is a member of the second tier of the Seese Pantheon- divinities created directly by Seese. Members of this tier are gender-fluid. Joran tends to slide more toward the masculine end of the spectrum, and it isn't uncommon for the He/Him pronouns to be applied. Some of his euphemisms include: The Judge, Old Black and White, The End.
Balance is sacred and must be protected. The heart of Joran's worship in Ereza is the Free City of Joran. The city is the home of the highest court in the land. As a site of justice, people travel from all over to take their cases for higher judgement. The followers of Joran travel the lands dispensing justice and settling disputes. All of the smaller temples throughout the land also serve as courthouses.
Clergy
The Chief Justice is the highest rank, followed by Appellate, Justice, Scales, Circuit Justice, Clerk Justices and Scales serve in the temples, with Appellates presiding over the larger ones. As the name implies, Justices focus on settling disputes, but Scales help people discern how they will be judged in the afterlife, and if necessary, how to make corrections. Circuit Justices travel the land to dispense justice and share the teachings of Joran. Clerks serve when and where they are needed.Impact on Secular Society
Joran's clergy relieve governments of a huge burden by mediating disputes. Their desire to balance the scales for Joran has imbued His followers with an aura of impeachable neutrality, but that is not to say they are perfect. If a person feels they received an unbalanced judgement from a Justice or Circuit Justice, they can take it to an Appellate. If unsatisfied with the Appellate, they can travel to the Free City of Joran for judgement from Chief Justice. However, the choice to accuse a Justice of being unbalanced carries its own consequences if unfounded. The clergy do not make every judgement in the land. Crimes against other gods, such as financial crimes for Donachie, are handled by their own faithful. This is something you usually see with the assemblies of third tier divinities who do not wish to be seen as subservient. Additionally, judgements in secular matters that do not require balance- disputing fines for examples, would be handled by local government (unless the rulings became unfair, and that unfairness required balance).Progeny
