Mistborne Mountains
The Mistborne Moutain range is the expansive mountain range that runs along the entirety of the northern coast of The Northern Reaches. It marks the northernmost border of the territory, both geographically and politically. They are among the most prominent and defining features of The Northern Reaches. The origin point of the River Ørsin is somewhere in or beyond the western end of the range, and the end River Glåma runs into the eastern end, near the point where the Headlands meet the Blightlands.
Features
The Mistborne Mountains go on for miles along the northern coast of the Headlands, and it is said there is no one spot where a traveller can see the end. The mountains themselves are notable as being among the tallest in Eruidór, creating a natural barrier that prevents much exploration farther north. Snowcapped peaks are a constant throughout the range, and like the land below, layers of permafrost are permeated throughout the range. The everpresent layers of mist give the range its name. Even in the warmer months of the year, the mist lessens, but never quite dissipates, while in the colder winter months, the mist can become so thick it is nigh impossible to see the way ahead without magical means. Caves of all sizes are found all around and within the range. The year round cold temperatures are among the lowest in the world, and traven deeper into the mountains are usually reserved for the warmer months, and even then are only typically taken by experienced mountaineers. The lower border of the range, however, is dotted by mines large and small, some still active, and some long since abandoned. Those attuned to magical forces have commonly reported that the mountains seems to be a particularly strong area of wild, primal magical energy. This trait has been reported through the recorded history of the region, and as such mages, mystics, druids, and all manner of other magic wielding individuals and group make treks to the mountains for various reasons, from simple magical research, to special rituals.Wildlife
As would be expected, wildlife accustomed to mountains and cold climates are in abundance in the mountain range. From simple mountain goats and wolves to wild elementals and sprites, all manner of mundane or exotic creatures can be found in the expanse of mountains. Some are found naturally, some are drawn to the latent magical energy in the area. Due to the large number of caves, as well as the mines, subterranean creatures are often encountered in the area as well, and travellers should choose caution when exploring beneath the peaks. Rumors abound the dragons sometimes make their home in the deeper reaches of the mountains, and there have been recorded sightings in the distant past, though they were rare and far between.
