Millmouth

Millmouth is a small city that sits on the western side of the Mith'ras Mountains, along the northern banks of the Shearwater Rush. The settlement was first established when amonite was discovered in the mountain chain. Millmouth became the perfect location to mine the precious mineral and as a result, the community was formed. Nearly 500 years later, Millmouth is equally well-known for its lively distilling industry, taking advantage of the ancient oak trees and unique strain of barely found in the region, as well as the pristine waters of the Shearwater Rush.

Ancient Oak Casts

A scotch whiskey of the highest regard, the distilleries of Millmouth are known throughout the entirety of Esos. Many attribute the distinct flavors of the whiskey to the waters of the Shearwater Rush combined with ancient oak casts harvested from the trees of the Dún Forest and the unique strand of barely found in the area. The liquor has become one of the flagship exports of Millmouth and the Kingdom of Alexandros as a whole. Three major distilling brands operate within the city—Dancing Pony, Incredible Dog, and Keegan Single Grain Whiskey—each owned by one of the major political houses of Millmouth.

The God Metal

After the discovery of amonite in the Mith’ras Mountains, the city of Millmouth was erected to take advantage of a particularly rich vein of the precious metal. Referred to by mages, battle smiths, and engineers alike as the god metal, amonite is a highly malleable and incredibly durable material. In addition, it is said to maintain a magical property and arcane wonder that has resulted in it being associated with the Creator of All—Amoni. The production of this resource has benefited the Kingdom of Alexandros greatly, bolstering its economy and helping to catapult the mortal races of Esos into the Age of Industry.

Government

The city is commanded by Starosta Amber Rumnaheim, a hardy and calculating dwarven woman and the matriarch of House Rumnaheim, chief proprietors of Incredible Dog Distillery. Since the city's founding, the three main distilling houses of Millmouth have competed for political control of the city. This tension has led to the three distilling houses - Rumnaheim, Murtagh, and Keegan - each employing its own private mercenary army and political agents to influence the administrative decision making of the city. As a result, the capital has installed a lawmaster to oversee the amonite mining operation and to ensure the petty squabbling of the distilling houses does not interfere with the greater political aspiration of the kingdom.

Industry & Trade

Most basic supplies and services can be found in Millmouth, with the occasional rare item finding its way to town from Alexandria or Westport. The economy of the city relies on two major sectors - mining and a vibrant liquor distilling industry. As a result, visitors to the city can find a wide selection of bars, taverns, inns, and bodegas.

Geography

Millmouth is a fairly rural city with simple homes, competing distilleries, and a copious number of bars, taverns, and theaters catering to the hard-working mining community. The city forms a kidney-shaped layout, as the southern district tightly wraps the eastward bend in the Shearwater Rush, while the northeastern side of the settlement lies adjacent to the base of the Mith'ras Mountains.   The city is divided into four main sections. The Northward or Oakhill, borders the ancient oak tree forests that proved resources for Millmouth's famous distilleries. Oakhill is also home to the distilleries, taverns, and various local industries of Millmouth, while often being the first location visited by miners as they return home from a hard day's work. The northeastern portion of the city is dubbed the Highlands and is home to the overwhelming majority of the city's residential neighborhoods. Southshore borders the Shearwater Rush and exists as the primary location for shipping and commerce within Millmouth. The final district of the city lies along the southern banks of the Shearwater River and is called the Orchards. Named for the peach, apricot, and plum trees that their, the Orchards are where the affluent and noble-blooded live on their lavish estates.
