Margot (Marr-Got)
Emperor Margot Autaritus (a.k.a. The Undying Emperor)
Emperor Margot was the first and only emperor of the Estellian Empire. Starting as a simple warlord in the Desolate Basin, he uncovered Truth's resting place and used their corpse to create artefacts of great power. The Lance of Truth, the most powerful of all the artefacts, allowed him to bring the continent to its knees in a long war which established his dominance over all other nations.
His rule lasted over 300 years, his life extended by the Lance that he wielded at all times. His own kingdom flourished from the taxes brought in from the nations that he conquered and his power was never shaken during his reign. He had dozens of children, his four favourites granted his "Grace", the gift of extended life that he experienced with the lance.
As the years took their toll on him, even the lance could not save him from the marching of time. He had been reduced to little more than a corpse on a throne by the time he died, mutated by years of divine magic flowing through him from clutching to the lance at all times of day. When he passed however, a great curse took hold of his home nation. The land turned grey and all those within it became undead monsters. The empire that he had ruled over fell into ruin over night, each of the states that he conquered free once more, while his own nation decayed like a corpse in the sun.
Now he lies still on his throne, his ridged lifeless corpse still holding onto the lance that once granted him so much.

Personal history
Not much is known about Margot's early life, but it is known that he was a mercenary in his early adult life under one of the other Warlords of The Desolate Basin. During this time, other nations had finally settled and were beginning to prosper, following the dark period which was the aftermath of the Great Convergence. The Desolate Basin was the one part of the continent where no nation expanded. Instead, it was a lawless land where warlords and their bands of mercenaries would hide.
Margot made his money, going on a number of raiding campaigns with his warlord, before he left the group to form his own. He was never the greatest of the warriors, but he did have a strong mind and charm. This allowed him to find a fair few members for his mercenary company and after his first contracted pillage, he officially became a warlord himself.
His company never flourished to fame, but they were very well trained in crossing difficult terrain, allowing them to cross mountains and delve into deep forests without getting lost. It was when he and his company were traversing one of these forests when he came across a beautiful spring. The water glowed with magic, and the grass was covered in white lilies. At the centre of the garden lay a body, one that you would assume was simply sleeping if you did not get close enough to notice their lack of breathing. The pristine corpse he had uncovered was that of Truth, the creator of the universe who had died in battle with The Crimson Betrayer hundreds of years prior.
Margot knew the power of Truth from the stories he had been told, he saw how the land around the corpse had reacted to the divine magic still within it. He thought that if he could harness this power for himself, he could wield the power of a god in his own hands. He achieved this by dissecting the body and using its parts to create a number of Artefacts. The Head was sawn off, the hands chopped off, and their clothing taken away. All of these had potential power, but not in the usable way that Margot wanted. The final artefact that he created was the Lance of Truth. Bones were taken out of Truth's body and carved into parts of a lance, the engravings painted with the blood of the creator. This lance had massive amounts of divine power within it and Margot found that it was wieldable.
Suddenly, with this lance Margot had gained the power to fell entire armies, flatten mountains, and even create intricate structures in moments. It granted him strength, speed, and greater healing powers. With this Lance, Margot could possibly bring the entire continent to its knees. And that is exactly what he did.
Margot's War of Subjugation was a long process. For 20 years he crossed the continent, conquering nation after nation with his growing army and his divine powers. Those who surrendered got off easy, those who fought back would see their entire army decimated, and little mercy shown to their towns and villages. As each nation fell and began to pay him taxes and resources, he turned his eyes to creating a nation where none had done so since the first age. His homeland of the Desolate Basin became the site of the greatest re-construction in history. When he was not on the war path, he was assisting his architects in reshaping and rebuilding the ruins of the elvish cities that were once stood here. The new cities atop these ruins were built between and around the old brick, allowing those living there to see the entire stretch of history they lived among. At the centre of all of this was a new city, built over the forest where Truth was found dead. This would be the capital of the new nation.
Margot's new nation was simply called "The Emperors Country" as by the time that mass migrations towards the new city had begun, Margot had took on the title of Emperor. In the 20 years it took to finish his conquest of the Continent, Emperor's Rise changed from a simple forest where Truth's corpse was found, into the largest city on the continent, with architecture and social planning that had not existed since the first age.
Margot, finally content with everything he had conquered, turned to making the Empire become a well oiled machine. One where each nation would provide for his country, so that he and his people would live in absolute comfort. The Emperor's country acted like a parasite on the continent, taking resources from the conquered nations and reaping all of the benefits.
Margot also had another problem, he had to hide the remaining artefacts that he had created, lest anyone try to steal them and overthrow him. But he still wanted access to them, in the rare case that he would require more power than he already had. And so, in the old dwarven halls that surrounded the basin, he sent the artefacts to be locked away deep in the cold stone fortresses. Each hall was guarded by both monsters, and a legion of soldiers.
The next 280 years of rule went by slowly for the continent. Progress slowed as they were punished with taxes, but wars essentially stopped happening for almost this entire reign, the countries united in their shared experience of being subjugated by the emperor. Margot enjoyed life, had many children, and ruled with increasingly less care as the years went by. His aging was slowed by the lance, but it was not stopped.
Eventually, this aging caught up with him. The lance was unable to fend off the march of time forever, but it kept him alive in a state of advanced age for longer than anyone could suffer. And yet, even in this state, he clung to the lance. And whilst he had the lance, none could challenge him. But eventually the march of time would claim his life, the lance unable to save him any longer.
When Margot passed on, the country that he had built shuddered with a pulse of magic, the plants withered and the people fell to their knees. Margot's undying will to rule had twisted into a dark curse that gripped all living things in in the Desolate Basin. The people fell sick and died within hours, only to return to life as a mutated monster.
The Empire of Estellia fell apart, now renamed to the Empire of Corpses. Scryer's can still see Margot's corpse on his throne, clutching to the lance that brought him everything.
Education
Margot was uneducated in his early life, only taking time to learn the ways of statecraft after he began to conquer the continent. It's rumoured that Margot was unable to read or write until he was in his 60's.
Over the years he had many tutors who caught him up to speed, but he was never especially knowledgeable, relying mostly on his many advisors over the years.
Employment
He was hired by a mercenary company known as "The Golden Eagles" during his youth. He went on multiple raiding campaigns with the company and was well respected within the group, although he was never considered to be a formidable warrior by any means. He left after 12 years of employment after saving a hefty sum of gold.

Family before him has been lost to history, but it is known that he had numerous children over the years with multiple wives. Those that he considered worthy were granted his "Grace", power from the Lance of Truth that would grant the child extended life.
The four children that received his Grace, in order of the grace being given, are:
Religious Views
Margot had a complete lack of regard for the gods, seeing his claiming of Truth's power as reasoning that even the gods were not above him. He was once approached by an apprentice of death, who sent a message to tell Margot that the Greater Gods were displeased with how he had desecrated their mothers body, and that he would suffer the consequences after his death. Margot simply brushed this comment aside, telling the apprentice that he never planned to die.
