Venico

Venico is a massive city state and capital of The Auric Amity. Hugely influential across the east of Estellia, this city has been the crown jewel of this half of the continent for many years. A powerhouse in production, commerce, and most of all: Magic, this city is the home of the Grand University of Venico, the most respected and prominent magic school in Estellia.

Demographics

The city is incredibly varied, with races from across the continent and beyond. The wealth classes vary too, with most people being middle class and a sizable number of lower and upper class families existing.

Government

The city is under the control of the Grand University, who have a separate department for city affairs chaired by people chosen by the dean. They answer to the High Council of the Amity, but have significant freedom and authority to do what they wish due to the influence of the University.

Defences

The city is defended by a large wall that surrounds the town on the land facing side. From the sea, the city is defended by the lighthouse garrison just off the coast - Gold Harbour Watch Tower

Infrastructure

Being a city of industry and magic, there is a large number of structures dedicated to the production of goods and the enhancement of the mind. Craftsmen's workshops line the streets, while libraries and research labs are dotted around the city.

History

Venico started as a magic university built by mages from Fierra, this was after a series of accidents that pushed the city state to tell them to take their work elsewhere or be banned from the city entirely. The university drew in students from across the region and thanks to it's link to the sea it brought in students from further afield as its prestige grew. With more people studying there, others were drawn to the university to develop their businesses around it. Assisted by the mages, they grew very rich and could expand their services even further.
Soon enough, the city had grown larger than Fierra and it had become the dominant city state in the region for good production. After a few centuries under imperial occupation under Margot, the city joined the Amity to keep the city safe from future occupation.
