Adonian
Adonian/Adonic culture is loosely inspired from ancient Babylonian/Assyrian/Sumerian culture. After the fall of the Adonian Empire, Adonian cultural practices fell out of vogue with much of the civilized world. This happened in part because of the perception of corrupted practices and the excessive use of magic. Additionally, Lucerian rule outlawed the practice of magic and had emissaries sent out to hunt those who still practiced.
Adonian's viewed mankind as the steward of the natural world. It is important to utilized magic and the elements with tremendous responsibility and not to access. Excessive magical power and use was highly regulated. Additionally, it is important to live in accordance with nature. (Contrast this with early Lucerian culture, who viewed mankind as the master and protector of nature. The world is to be conquered and subdued, especially the natural elements which are to be guarded strongly against. Elemental powers are never to be used and mankind's greatest error is learning to use magic.)
Religion
Adonian religious practices emphasized that everything was constrained and made up of the four elements, but they were not personified (not sure about this). They respected and acknowledged all of the animal gods but Adonian religion focused primarily on Rai, String, Tetsud, and Acantha.
Rai is the Lion, King of the Gods, Protector of the Land
Funeral Rites
A body is covered in sticks, dirt, and leaves and carried to the river. The body is then
Ritual cleansing of the dead through the 4 elements. It is carried from land to water, is dried and burned, and its ashes brought to a high place with the wind.
Rituals and order were very important to early Adonians. Highly religious and strict adherence to rituals of nature. Adonians revered symmetrical and nature balance of the elements. Art, architecture, ritual, even rule was symmetric and influenced by the 4 elements.
Animals represented by their gods were unable to be hunted. Strict punishment for violation of religious principles. Theft and violence not tolerated. in middle of power index. Adonian empire valued strength and heroism, but placed importance on taking care of its citizens. Conscientious people that valued long term goals of society. Future focused.
IDEA: As Adonian culture is centered around the 4 elements, perhaps there are 4 primary families related to these elements, or a caste like system where professions are handed down based on element? Or perhaps there are laws, where certain member must marry based on elements, or maybe this is just royalty and ruling class?
