Broken Stone denizens descend largely from displaced Lokuruk and Drogic peoples. While many Droghs emigrated West, a fairly large segment continued to settle the coastland mountain ranges.
To outsiders, denizens of Broken Stone are considered wild men of the mountain, savage and brutal, unorganized, undisciplined. They refer to Broken Stone as a no-mans land, telling their children strange tales of horrible practices and rituals in the mountains. Some call them the thousand broken clans, as they are known for frequent infighting, raiding, and hunting people.
A more nuanced view closer to the truth is that Broken Stone is where the war of the gods took place. They have a complicated history of Elder and animal gods as well as heroes. For their deservedly brutal reputation, some clans of Broken Stone have developed sophisticated networks of trade and cooperation. Many of Broken Stone have a strong sense of honor, of earning ones keep, of hard work. They have fairly sophisticated views of women, who are taught to fight, hunt, and take care of oneself just as males are. They have harsh penalties for dishonorable conduct, for rape, thievery, and theft.
Lowlanders who enter Broken Stone are treated with great suspicion. The rare few who
have migrated into the mountains must prove their worth and integrate into their culture. In
recent years, a number of Elders and Chiefs have sought to make peace with the troubled history
of their gods. Some of the more ambitious leaders have sought to conquer lowlands.
Warriors of Broken Stone are considered the greatest warriors in the world and their
weapons, made of everstone, are considered the most durable and powerful weapons ever made.
They are extremely hard to come by.
Tribes that live in Old Stone make their weapons from stone and bone. They are highly
isolated and do not typically interact with other members of Broken Stone.
Known Tribes include Aka, Gar, Orok, and Koda. They revere the blood moon as a day
of Beoth’s mourning
