The Blackwood Institute

An institute dedicated to developing technology for war, the Blackwood Institute aims to defend the Isle of Kagarra against the forces of Novaris and his endless supply of soldiers. Founded by siblings with a vision for a peaceful future, they know that to do that, sometimes war needs to get bloodier.

Structure

The Institute is run by both Bentley and Maxine Blackwood who act as directors to provide projects and developments, as well as finance the company but leave the main meat of the decision making to the scientists, artificers, arcanomechanics, and other intellectuals to ensure that the company's future is not steeped solely in warfare. The main team, known as the Invasion Unit, is run by the most prolific scientific duo in Kagarran history - Astur Östener and Kreia Hallimer. They front the development of Project Alexander, a task so under wraps that all information is not allowed to leave the facility under punishment of cognitive wiping.

Public Agenda

To research and develop technologies that will aid the Kagarran forces in the war against the Novarian empire, once the war ends, they intend to develop quality-of-life technology that will push the Isle into the future.

The Blackwood Institute has assets that come directly from business arrangements that the Blackwood siblings have made through their main enterprise in the Blackwood & Sons, Ltd. company, and use their mild wealth to fund each piece of research.

History

The Institute was founded due to Bentley uncovering the invoices for funding the war, which at first glance was nothing more than piquing interest, but discovered that Novaria was also funded under the bank. As such, he and his sister, Maxine, banded together to create a business solely to stop the Novarian forces from succeeding. So far, despite only being founded for little more than a decade, the Institute has not managed to release any technology due to most still being constructed, financial issues, and factories being discovered (and destroyed).
However, they were responsible for the development of arcanographic lenses, which can analyse magical fields, which has aided arcanotempestologists (arcane storm researchers) in identifying the nature of an abberant weather formation. They have also developed more prototypical technologies such as firearms, flashpowder cameras, and other smaller technologies.
