The Mother, Leverett

Goddess of Fertility

Wise and even-tempered, Leverett values community, stability, and the balance of nature. Bonds formed by love, both romantic and platonic, are the most important to her and are expected to be treated equally so by her followers.

She appears to mortals as a silver-furred moon rabbit with voluptuous curves. She radiates gentle but undeniable authority.

Clergy

Priestesses (female only) can be either women or children. Priestesses are never younger than the age of 6 and attend to their duties in pairs. Priestesses are required to live a vegetarian lifestyle and live in the temples, though they may leave to raise families of their own. Adult females may choose to become priestesses, but usually, the clergy is made up of young girls left at the temple steps. Male children left at her temple are raised as well, though they are taught to do manual labor such as repairs on the temple, taking care of the animals, or helping with the farming but do not become her priests. Leverett’s temples are usually found near forests or farms.
  • It is said that you can gain Leverett’s favor by leaving fresh fruit and vegetables at her temples. These gifts help support her clergy, and in turn, she supports the charitable.

Tenets of Faith

  • Leverett teaches her worshippers to live happy lives and take care of those they love.
  • She prohibits eating meat and forbids farming livestock for the purpose of slaughter (but animal products, like milk, wool, etc. may still be farmed IF done humanely), although not all of her followers closely adhere to this prohibition. She does not judge women who choose not to have children.
  • Abusing your relationships with others for your own personal gain is deeply frowned upon, and such abuses are sure to draw her ire. Adultery, cheating on partners, and unnecessary violence are grave sins. Hitting, abusing, or killing a child are sure ways to anger the goddess.

Holidays

Zahra

Also known as Flower Festival, Festival of Color, Spring of Color, or Days of Zahra. The holiday bears the name of its founder, Zahra, an avatar of the goddess Leverett. The celebration is dedicated to the love goddess and honors love all over the world. Floral decorations are strung up at people’s homes and along the streets. People are encouraged to show their platonic love to friends and family and/or profess romantic love to that special person throughout the two-week long celebration. It is also a very popular time for marriages and conception.

  Lunar Festival

Despite its name, the Lunar Festival is a masquerade ball. Held on the island Llyria, the Lunar Festival is hosted once every Blue Moon. Quite literally. Due to the rarity of a Blue Moon, this festival only occurs every 2-3 years. The festival is dedicated to the Goddesses responsible for the founding of Llyria - Leverett, Rydia, and Nalani - and also serves to cleanse the island of any negative energies.

Other Information

  • When prayed to, Leverett helps women or couples determine if they’re with child. She will sometimes increase a couple’s fertility if they are having difficulty conceiving.
  • Multiple births (twins, triplets, etc.) are a sign of her favor, and people say of multiple births, “The rabbit smiled on you.”
  • She has been known to make women barren and men, impotent. Miscarriage and birth defects, however, are not among her known punishments; she would never harm a child for the behavior of the parents. These are more likely to be caused by Alere, who delights in creating “monsters.”
  • She has an obvious fondness for Kiel, the nature god.
  • Before her ascension, Leverett was a mortal moon rabbit whom Ogden trapped in his forest one day. She was tricked into sleeping with the forest god and gave birth to Leanne as a result.
