Bloodlust

Bloodlust is a mental state, in which a seriously (mostly melee) wounded hunter will attack anything that moves, without thinking, until he pass out or die from exhaustion or his own injuries.

Due to their way of life, Segai warriors are the most prone to this condition, but it is not uncommon for Bugits or even Bena elves, who spend too much time alone in the wilderness. Women and men both can produce the symptoms.

The fear of death is usually blamed as the root cause of Bloodlust. The injured, cornered and frightened person tries to escape from his distressed situation, at any cost. In reality, the course of this mental illness is more complicated. The Segai religion and beliefs obliges them to die in battle, because that is the only way they are worthy to meet their creator god in the afterlife. This in itself reinforces the tendency for Bloodlust in the Segaii, right from their young age. The feelings of loneliness and abandonment also has such mental effect on the person, as the jungle is an extremely dangerous place, and demands a high price for survival.

When an individual, who has tendency for Bloodlust, finds himself in a situation where he feels, he has nothing left to lose, the condition tends to surface in a form of a bloody seizure. It is important to remember, that one such seizure does not make the person completely unaccountable. In a serious emergency, this may the only way to escape. Only consider someone fatally fallen to the Bloodlust, when he react to any physical injury with such a seizure. They are downright dangerous to they environment, and are often killed or banished from their communities.

There are many difference between Bloodlust and Battle-rage. The latter is a useful ability, that the person can influence on some level. Bloodlust, on the other hand, cannot be suppressed, and it does not end with the fall of the opponent(s). A person having a seizure cannot control his blows and often loses his weapon. He attacks with an ancient instinct - and still can deliver surprisingly effective attacks, as mainly aims at the eyes, ears, the neck and other fatal points.

There are evil objects, that increase a person's tendency to Bloodlust. One of the most famous is the cursed relic of Vangrakath, the Lord of the Beastman.
