History

The Corshurets are an old family in Laaningard. Though they originally came from exceptionally humble beginnings. Being lowborn initially.

Second Age

The founder of the Corshurets was a knight named Ser Oswin Corshuret, who fought in campaigns against Elyrim and Aeruta. During a war with Elyrim, Ser Oswin Corshuret saved the life of the Laaningardian Empress, who was so impressed, she not only took him as a concubine, but also gave him the city of Anechester to govern and rule over in her stead. The original family, the Anechesters, having fallen out of favor of the Empress.   For the rest of the Second Age, the Corshurets would continue to rule over Anechester and the surrounding regions, as Dukes and Duchesses of the region. The Corshurets also provided the Empire with some of its best generals, tacticians, admirals, engineers and mages. Being of 'Pure' Laaningardian Blood, the Corshurets were often viewed upon as the prime example of how Laaningardians should act.
Ninth Crisis of the Second Age
During a 5 year period during the latter portion of the Second Age, the Laaningardian Empire descended into what would become known as the Ninth Crisis, in which the Corshurets would play a pivotol role.   The empire ruling family of the time had been assassinated by a magical power, leaving the country headless except for a 2 year old who was the son of the previous Emperor. When the Duke of Oliscaster, Duke Ladrin II Vinsith, took the young Emperor in and proclaimed himself 'regent', a thinly veiled attempt to seize the throne. The Corshurets, along with the other major noble families, were outraged.   However instead of trying to resecure the throne for the young Emperor, Duke Xadwist of Corshuret, declared himself Emperor by right of the founding Corshuret being the Empresses concubine, and their children being literal children of the Royal Family, and invaded Oliscaster. The ensuing war ended with a complete defeat of both Xadwist and Ladrin by loyalists. Both being executed. However both families retaining their positions of power. This mark on Corshuret history left many skeptical of the once loyal family.

Third Age

The third age saw the decline of the Laaningardian Empire, and the Corshuret Family. Increasing unrest as a failed war with the Daevirn Reich left the country massively in debt. And the royal family levied harsher taxes on the noble families such as the Corshurets, who in turn levied harsher taxes on the people of Anechester.   However the truly crippling blow would be the Viteran War of Independence. The Corshurets had previously, relied heavily upon a large sect of the family which lived in Vitera for wealth, military power and in-roads of other families. Formed when the Corshurets married into a Viteran noble family and took them over, taking over the County of Sasende. However during the Viteran War of Independence, amazingly, the Corshuret-Viterans sided with the Viteran Kingdom and denouncing their Laaningardian relatives. The brutal war saw the Laaningardian Corshurets lose much of their military.

Deathblow

While these multiple conflicts were going on, the rivalry between the Corshurets and the Anechester families were harsher than ever. With the Anechesters slowly gaining more power and momentum, promises of reform and a charismatic house leader led to greater popular support for the Anechesters.   When the Corshurets raised taxes yet again as the Empire descended into civil war, with the Vinsiths making a play for the throne, the Anechesters struck. Inviting much of the town to a large ball, a 'game' was played where different families would work together in different rooms. While a large number of the Corshurets, oblivious to the Anechesters nefarious plans, gathered in a large single room. A number of orcish mercenaries were unleashed on the Corshurets. Most 80 members of the Corshuret family were slaughtered. In the ensuing three days, the surviving Corshurets throughout the Empire were hunted and slaughtered by agents of the Anechesters.   In every massacre theres always survivors though, and Lodris Aep Corshuret, who was in Vitera as an ambassador along with his entire family, were safe from the extermination. As were the Oliscaster Corshurets who remained under the protection of the Vinsith Emperor, who kept a close eye on the situation.   By the end of it, Lodris returned to find the Corshurets wiped out. However royal decrees protected some of the lands from falling into Anechester hands. However the city of Anechester was returned to Anechester control after two thousand years of Corshuret control.
