Origins
Originally, the Champions of Merit were a collection of adventurers who met on the Emerald Loop or in Jigow proper as they gathered for the town's annual Festival of Merit. After teaming up for a few challenges, the group was selected to compete against Jigow's Fighting Five in the final task. In claiming their victory, they discovered the Jewel of Three Prayers, a Vestige of the Divergence, and received a vision from Alyxian the Apotheon, a long-forgotten hero of the Calamity. Thus began a weeks-long search for Alyxian's tomb. During their search for Alyxian in the ruins of Cael Morrow, one of the Champions, Zephyr, was corrupted by ruidium and began experiencing fits of rage. Concerned for her welfare, the Cobalt Soul temporarily recalled her for observation and anger management lessons. In her place, they sent a knowledge cleric named Zif to supervise the party. When Zephyr eventually rejoined the Champions for their final trek through the Netherdeep, Zif continued with them as a full member of the party.Members
