Dark Vengeance Freeblades Campaign

What is it? A Global Freeblades Campaign Organized Play Event.   When does it start? Whenever you want to run it.  The OG Dark Vengeance Campaign began 26 February 2023, and ran til June 6.   How long does it last? Seven two-week campaign turns. We used Sunday to the Saturday of the following week.   Who can play in it? Everyone!   Who is running it? Your local Quester referred to in these rules as the gamemaster or GM. If you don’t have one, contact Matt Gooch at DGS.   Where do I play? Anywhere you play Freeblades.   How do I play?   Dark Vengeance is a story-driven Freeblades Campaign. It uses the Campaign rules from the Freeblades Living Rulebook. Those rules are in effect along with the additions and changes noted in this Campaign.   Freebands: Each player begins the Campaign with a starting treasury of 150 gold royals with which to recruit their initial freeband. Freebands may be selected from those in the LRB and from the current Unsanctioned rules. Playtest models, rules and factions are NOT to be used in Dark Vengeance.   Options: The following options - and only these options - are in effect in this campaign:   Veteran Leaders.    Pure Freebands.    Campaign Options: Reroll on Advance Table, Heirlooms.    Large Shields.    Expanded Gear Options.

Patrons

Patrons for the Dark Vengeance Campaign may be chosen from any of the patrons shown in the Patrons section of the World of Faelon on World Anvil:   People     Freebands may choose any single patron. Patrons do not have to match the freeband's faction. The patron is chosen before the campaign starts and remains your patron throughout.

Additional Gameplay

Magic Item Duplicates: If a freeband acquires an item that is randomly determined, it may continue to reroll until it results in an item the freeband does not possess.   Alternate Handicap: The player with the lowest FV in each game decides which handicap system to use.   Honorable Withdrawal: Players should be aware of and ready to make use of the Honorable Withdrawal rule on page 103. No one wants to see a freeband mashed to a bloody pulp just for the sake of playing out a game turn. As always, treat each other with the respect for which our community is well-known.     Reputation   A player’s freeband gains reputation during the campaign in the form of reputation points. Reputation points are gained by: Winning a game by objective: 1 point   Losing a game, for every full 50 FV more than you that your opponent deployed: 1 point.   Winning a game, for every full 25 FV more than you that your opponent deployed: 1 point.   Reputation points must be reported to, confirmed by and recorded by your GM each round.   Effect of reputation points: In the final game against Tal Amasor, the Black Knight, the player with the highest reputation will be able to make certain decisions on behalf of the players’ freeband.

Dispatches

Every Week, each player sends a dispatch to the GM. This may be posted on the Freeblades Players Facebook page, in an email, or on Discord in “The Sleeping Grush” channel.   Dispatches take the form of:   Name, freeband value at start of week, Date, Opponent (s), Scenario (s), Result: Win by Objective, Win by Breaking, Loss, or Draw; Gold gained, AP gained, all cumulatively for the week.   For example:   Matt, 225, Oct 25, Julie, Looting Spree, Win by Breaking, 12 gold, 7AP   Dispatches help the GM track results. Help the GM help you. It’s ONE LINE, let’s make it happen!   And when the player adds a little story to go with the result, we all benefit!

Campaign Turns and Scenarios

We’ll be releasing new scenarios every two weeks on Saturday night before the campaign turn begins. We understand that not everyone can play every week and we want to make sure that everyone who wants to can participate in this campaign. A Freeband can only play one game per campaign turn. Each player may only play another specific player once during the campaign, unless that group has less than seven players.

Winning the Campaign

The last game of the campaign will be an Encounters game pitting all of the players of that local campaign against the Black Knight himself, who may or may not have grown stronger... Each player may choose one non-leader hero from their freeband to form the player freeband. The campaign winner is the player whose model causes the last LP to be lost from the Black Knight in this last game of the campaign.

Original Campaign Prizes

When we first ran this campign in early 2023, we ran it as a global campign and gave out promotional prizes.  If you'd like to experience something similar, have your Quester contact us.   Black Knight Conversion Contest: At the beginning of the campaign, DGS will reveal the look of the Black Knight’s armor and weapon. Players may enter a conversion of a DGS model, adhering to the DGS Contest Rules, that is their interpretation of the Black Knight. Each GM will judge the best of those conversions. From among those conversions, DGS will choose an overall winner.   Original Campaign Prizes:   Everyone who plays gets their choice of one of the two promotional artifact cards.   Everyone who wins their campaign gets both artifact cards.   Each local campaign winner of the Black Knight Conversion contest gets a silver master crafter coin.   Overall BK Conversion winner gets a gold master crafter coin and also gets to help choose the pose for the model.
