The Docklands

Phlan's docklands area are bustling, rough and boisterous and known as The Welcomers' territory. The docks are the town's lifeline of trade & industry and is staffed day and night to ensure a quick unloading and turnaround of cargo and ships. Catering to both small vessels that manoeuvre the Stanjow river north and larger ships that trade across the Moonsea as well as their crews, it is a prime destination for many of the regions merchants and pirates looking for port. Huge torches and Phlan's few alchemical lights keep the docks surprisingly well lit through the night but cast a dark shadow over the many shanty like buildings that have sprung up around them. Alongside the usual warehouses, docks and trading offices are taverns, brothels, gambling dens and other seedier establishments to cater to the sailors, labourers and adventures.   Open all hours for all types of folk, you can find almost anything you're looking for if you've got the right type of coin. However, cross the wrong person or walk into the wrong tavern, and you'll end up knifed and dumped to rot in an alley. Muggings and violence are common and there are few Black Fists around to enforce the law. Those that are will have their own agendas, already payed off or indulging in criminality themselves. Instead, gangs under the umbrella of the Welcomers dispense a form of justice and ensures that coin continues to flow without too much interference.
