Human
Humans are one of the most widely spread races on Toril, being found on every continent and every environment. The origin of humans is unknown, and is likely to be varied, as there are several known instances of humans arriving on Toril via extradimensional means. Compared to other races, humans are very diverse, but are biologically unspecialised and do not live for very long. Instead, humans create long-lasting social or political institutions that allow their work to persist long after their death.

History
Unlike other races, such as dwarves and elves, humans have no unified creation myth. Despite this, humans are known to have existed alongside the creator races in the distant past, over 35,000 years ago. In addition, while humans are known to be native to Toril, there are many recorded instances of humans being brought to the planet via extradimensional travel. This is very notable in the case of the Mulan, whose gods were even able to follow them to Toril.
Despite their short lives and lack of innate magical ability, humans have often come to dominate large parts of the world. After the end of the Crown Wars, various human realms were forged - the most notable of which was Netheril. The Netherese created much of what forms the basis of modern magical art, outcompeting even ancient elven mages. However, as is the case with many human realms, it eventually collapsed in a rather dramatic fashion due to the hubris of one man - the archmage Karsus.
Since the fall of ancient Netheril, humans have become the most populous of the races in Faerûn. Most of the surface realms are controlled by humans, such as Cormyr, Thay, and the great cities of the Sword Coast. Humans tend to have good relations with other races, especially halflings and dwarves. Elves look at humans with some measure of fear and respect, but the two races generally get along well.
