Chapter 51: Terrible Day for Rain
General Summary
Date: 10th of Uktar to 14th of Uktar, 1491 DR
Beneath the sands of Ascore, the party rested after having defeated the Venom Troll. As they patched out their wounds and discussed their strategy, a wispy white visage drifted from the corpse of the Venom Troll towards the main chamber ahead. With the help of magic, Nomime deduced that somehow the energy was Andrew. Driven by a mixture of grief and determination, the party pressed on, discovering a massive cavernous chamber. They found the three hags in front of a pulsating inky black portal. After a bit of back and forth, Nomime's fear was confirmed: The hags had Andrew's soul. They offered to bargain with the soul, but first the party would have to retrieve the Crown of Obadai from the Stone Giants. Undeterred, the party defiantly declined, plunging themselves into battle against the crones. Chaos unfolded as undead began rising from the inky pools of the room, assailing the heroes. The hag magic blasted across the room, swapping the souls of Nut and Nomime so that the two found themselves in each others bodies. Despite the odds being against the party, they rallied together and overcame the hags. However, the witches, employing magic, managed to escape just as they unleashed a magical box, releasing the blue dragon the party had captured them previously. A desperate struggle ensued as the now corrupted shadow blue dragon emerged. The party snatched the box and narrowly succeeded in sealing the creature back into its magical prison. With the immediate threat quelled, the party delved into the hags' lair, discovering an array of peculiar items in a small cavern. While searching these rooms, Nomime stumbled upon Andrew's lifeless body, that was discarded within one of the cages. They picked him up and teleported to Waterdeep to seek aid in resurrecting Andrew. As they appeared, they learned that war had been declared against the giants by the city of Waterdeep. With more pressing problems at their hand, they found a temple where a priest was tasked in resurrecting Andrew. Despite their best effort, Andrew's soul was beyond the grasp of their magic. Defeated, the party rested for the night and as morning arrived, fetched Andrew and teleported to the city of Neverwinter. They learned that Moongleam Tower of Everlund was attacked by the Cloud Giants and many refugees had used the teleportation network to flee the scene. They hired a horse and a carriage and thus began the long way back to Phandalin. Once they arrived, they were greeted by Carp who was excited to see his best friend once more. The party rode to Alderleaf farm where they met Qelline Alderleaf. As the realization hit, the surrogate mother of Andrew broke down in tears, weeping on her porch holding onto Carp. After this devastating loss, can the party muster up the strength to rescue Andrew's soul? How many more innocents will the hags hurt in retaliation for the battle against the Good Fellas? As the world around them is thrown into chaos, who will the party choose to save?Rewards Granted
