Sacred Grove

Anzû's sacred grove is a small area within the massive forest that makes up the Singing Wood, located somewhere near the top of the mountain that overlooks the capital city. The grove primarily consists of hazel, plum and pear trees whose pollen is distributed throughout the forest by Anzû's divine wind. In the center of the grove is a clearing which houses an ancient shrine to Anzû that was built in the time of Azar.   Members of the Singing Wood's royal family make pilgrimages to the sacred grove to gain Anzû's favor for rites of passage rituals such as marriage or coronation, to consult with Anzû about paths of action, and annually for the New Year's celebration in the Singing Wood. The path to Anzû's grove is not fixed, and so each journey is also a test for the pilgrim. Anzû can influence the difficulty of this test as they see fit. Failure to reach the sacred grove is usually regarded as a terrible omen, but has happened to past monarchs that Anzû did not favor.
