Kikati

The Salt Wastes Kobolds

The kobold tribes of the Denghadi Salt Wastes share a common heritage. Descended from the magical creations of ancient red and gold dragons, Salt Waste Kobolds (or Kikati, as they call themselves) are hardy and well-adapted to heat. They are well-known as the primary salt and mineral miners of the Desert Coast, exporting materials gathered from the Salt Wastes and Lake Iksamisaji.   Kikati kobolds are characterized by tan, brown and red scales, either solid color or striped with darker bands. The occasionally more gold or coppery-scaled individual also appears; however, this is trait seen only rarely, perhaps once a generation.   Although the Kikati share a common heritage, there are several disparate factions of Kikati tribes, and their relationships with other species vary greatly. Generally speaking, the tan, brown-striped Yokitapi tribe are amiable to other races when paid well, and they are the most common merchants and traders in the Desert Coast Region. However, the dark brown Takipayi tribe, which live near the cliffs at the northern end of the Denghadi Salt Wastes, are generally hostile to those they view as "outsiders."

Culture

Art & Architecture

As with most kobolds, the Kikati prefer to live underground - in the case of the Kikati, they most often live in the sides of mountains and cliff faces, or inside of artificially created mounds in the desert. Kikati architecture is characterized by tall, thin window and door openings with arched tops. There is generally little architectural decoration or complication in their buildings, as they tend towards a smooth, decluttered style that relies on the natural shape of the stone and sand they live in.
