Bow of the Beastmaster
The beastmaster is more than a circus performer. We do not tame the beast, for a tame beast is a beast no longer. We befriend them, bond to them, become one with them. Only when your very souls are connected will the bow respond to your touch.
Appearance
A longbow of dark wood with a hand grip of wrapped leaves, tipped with two silver wolves that appear to be biting the string to keep it in place.
Mechanics
Weapon (Longbow), Very Rare, Requires Attunement
The weapon is a +1 Longbow for an unattuned wielder. Attuning the weapon has no effect unless the wielder has a bonded animal companion. For one so bonded, the weapon gains the following abilities:
- Three times a day as a bonus action the archer can draw their beast's spirit into the bow and "shoot them" to teleport their companion to any space they can hit within the range of their weapon. After firing the archer may have the animal teleported to where the "arrow" would have landed. This cannot deal damage and does not count as an attack.
- After teleporting their companion, the archer may choose to imbue their companion with spiritual energy. For 1 minute, the companion takes on a silvery, incandescent cast. All attacks by the animal companion deal force damage, gain bonus damage equal to the wielder's proficiency bonus, and are considered magical for purposes of damage reduction. This ability recharges after a long rest.
