Bee's Parents

Bee's parents fled Port Nyanzaru when Bee was only 4 years old. They caught a ship to Athkatla, a city in Amn. After a few nights, assassins broke into the house and killed her parents. Bee managed to hide and ended up living rough on the streets.    Bee cannot remember her father’s name but her mother she thinks was called Jade. Her father had grey fur while her mother was orange with stripes. All she has from her parents is an elaborate cloth bag inside which is an iron token with a triceratops skull on it and an old gold coin with a cat with four tales.   Bee’s parents were Thunder Cloud and Translucent Jade. Cloud was an archaeologist and Jade was a Textile Designer. They had a house near to the dye works in the Market Ward of Port Nyanzaru  Cloud and Jade were murdered by assassins sent by the Merchant Prince Jobal. Jobal had been hired by Cloud's brother as a guide on an expedition to find the Temple of Shagambi, deep in the Jungles of Chult. The expedition found the Temple and great treasures as well. Jobal poisoned the rest of the party, killing them and returned to Port Nyanzaru with great wealth, telling the story of how Zombies and Dinosaurs had killed everyone else. Jobal used his new found wealth to set up the Guide Guild which led to him eventually becoming a Merchant Prince.    Cloud was suspicious of his brother's death and hired a guide to take him to the Temple. There he found the remains of the party and discovered they had been murdered. Upon returning to Port Nyanzaru Cloud was confused about what to do and was not subtle about asking questions.    Jobal suspected that Cloud knew the truth and first decided to scare the family into leaving the city by giving them an old Ytepka Iron Token he had got hold of. Cloud tried to contact friends in the Ytepka society to find out why they received it. Jobal then got impatient and ordered a Sanction on the family. Someone tipped Cloud off so they left the city   Dye Works   The family lived in an apartment opposite the fountain near the Dye Works in Port Nyanzaru. Jade was a skilled textiler would could make beautiful traditional Chult patterned fabric. A sample of this fabric is the cloth bag that Bee's owns. She was well known to the traders and dye workers in the area. The cloth bag can be identified by the craftsmen in the area. If shown the Fabric purse people recognize it as one of Jade’s designs but the coin is not recognized. If shown the Triceratops token peoples eyes widen, a sharp intake of breath and then then make excuses and leave. If pushed, they say they don’t want anything to do with this.   A Calishite Merchant, Aseir Kahid now lives in the apartment. He is very surprized by the group of people at his door and is a bit defensive “What do you want?” is apartment is full of drawing of clothes, fabrics, and clothes. There are many ornaments from his home country. He has lived in Port Nyanzaru for 4 years and brought this apartment shortly after he arrived. Doesn’t have any details of the person he brought it from, a Chultan. There is nothing to be found in the house. If asked he can recommend one of the neighbours, a Chultan designer who has lived her for the whole of his life.   The Chultan designer, Sana has a stall nearby. She certainly remembers Jade, a greatly skilled textile designer. She actually used many of her fabrics in her designs. She remembers her husband Cloud and thinks he was involved in antiques. She even remembers the birth of their child and celebrating it with them. Older people in the area have similar memories of the family. On a intelligence roll +15 Some people recall the family disappearing suddenly one night and  +18 someone remembers Cloud the day before being quite frantic trying to borrow money.   Hector   Hector Greycastle remembers Cloud and his brother, they were both archeologists. Cloud's brother died on an expedition in the Chult jungle. Hector says Wakanga was friends with Cloud and his family.   Jobal's Manson    Jobal has a very similar coin to Bee's displayed in his collection. He said it was a coin from the expedition he made his fortune from.   Blind Guide   A blind beggar sitting outside the Bathhouse tells the party that he was a guide but when Jobal set up his Guide Guild he didn't want to join. He tried to continue working as a guide but he was caught by Jobal's henchmen and was first beaten and then blinded by them. He hates Jobal and if questioned will say how he doesn't believe the story about how Jobal made his fortune. He says he knows a fellow retired guide who said once when he was drunk that he was hired as a guide to return to the Temple and said the explorers weren't killed by any zombies or dinosaurs.   The other guide is called Osaw and lives in the Malors Throat. For enough money and if Bee tells him her story he will say that Cloud hired him to take him into the jungle to retrace the steps of his brother expedition. They found the bodies of the rest of the party, and they definitely were not killed by dinosaurs or zombies, they reckoned they were more likely poisoned. When they got back to PN Osaw parted ways with Cloud and never saw him again. When Jobal took control of the Guides, Osaw retired from being a guide.   Zhanthi    Zhanthi knew Jade well, when she sees Bee she clasps her face oh my little Kitten, you look so much like your mother. Zhanthi recognises the fabric as Jade design, the coin she does not recognise. The token makes her gasp. “Where did you get this?”, she explains the purpose of the token. She says, “Let me talk to some contacts I have. Maybe I can find out why they received this”.   Wakanga   Wakanga O’tamu recognises the coin, he has seen a similar coin in a display case in Jobal’s manson. The fabric he says is based on traditional Chult designs but has modern influences and is of excellent quality, maybe Zhanthi would know more about it. Wakanga knew of Cloud, him and his brother Kite were quite accomplished archaeologists. Kite died on a trip into the jungle. It was an expedition that Jobal was the guide for when he made his fortune. On seeing the Token, Wakanga says “mmm, this could explain why they fled the city”   When the Ytepka society judges that someone has damaged the social fabric of Chult or is on the verge of committing a great wrong, it presents a warning by anonymously delivering an iron token bearing the likeness of a triceratops. It’s up to the marked individual to figure out the meaning of the token and take steps to correct the offending behaviour or undo the damage. If the person ignores the warning and persists in offending the society, the Ytepkas mete out punishment as they see fit, up to and including a sanction.    Jessamine    Murder is illegal, but “sanctions” — legal permission to kill someone or to have someone killed — can be purchased from the merchant prince Jessamine. The price depends on the prominence of the intended victim, the reason for the sanction, and the wealth of the purchaser. The minimum price possible is 150 gp; the maximum is limitless. The availability of sanctions doesn’t mean they’re common — it’s rare for more than six to be sold in a year. Sanctions were still in place when the Port was ruled by Amn, it was one of their traditions that remained after PN gained its independence. Jessamine has overseen Sanctions for the past 20 years.   The Sanction was taken out by Jobal to kill Cloud and Jade, it cost him 1000 gps, they got word of this and fled the city. The assassins followed them to Amn and killed them. If confronted by this Jassamine simply says it was just business. A sanction to kill Jobal would cost 100,000 gps
