The First Sigil
In a dark, wet, subterranean chamber beneath the bustling streets of Baldur's Gate, a young, optimistic Pax reads from a well-worn tome. His superiors in the Order have kept him here for two days, demanding he unlock some secret within the words and show them how to use its power. So far, this process has not gone well.
As he re-reads the material, his fingers traced along the path of an infernal sigil, a pattern of interwoven threads and symbols. Pax is transported into a vision of flickering images, as if the ink of the sigil covered his sight and drew him into the darkness. Within, Pax sees a gigantic floating city atop an earthmote leagues above the earth. An explosion somewhere above, darkness overtaking the sunlight, and the sky city's collapse. The devastation and ruin of an entire community cratering into the earth, shock waves and tremors roaring through the landscape. A book, one whose cover matches this symbol, buried in the rubble of a collapsed tower hidden beneath countless shattered artifacts or treasures. Then, a hand, reaching through the debris, dusting off the tome, and hiding its secrets beneath a dark crimson cloak.
