FINLAND STATION

Finland Station stands as the strategic headquarters for Gorham’s Marauders, repurposed from its original design as a Seegson transfer platform. Once a mundane waypoint for interstellar travel and mining operations, it now plays a pivotal role in the Marauders' ongoing mission against the Perfected.

Historical Background

The inception of Finland Station as a stronghold against the Perfected began with a tragic and desperate event. The original colonists, led by the pioneer J.V. Gorham, faced a devastating threat from the Perfected. As he lay on his deathbed, J.V. Gorham inspired his followers to take a drastic step: to destroy Sanchez Outpost before the Perfected could transform it. This act of destruction left Sanchez Colony a nuclear wasteland, but it also marked the beginning of a relentless campaign to contain the bio-mechanical menace.   Following this harrowing event, the survivors reorganized themselves into a militant group, taking the name Gorham’s Marauders. They salvaged what they could from the desolate Sanchez Colony and set their sights on an abandoned Seegson platform in orbit. This platform, renamed Finland Station, became their new base of operations. From this vantage point, they could monitor and strike against the Perfected, ensuring that the threat remained confined to the Far Spinward Colonies.

Overview of Finland Station

Finland Station, now a bastion of resistance, mirrors the design of Novgorod Station, providing a fortified environment for the Marauders. Registered under ICC 2003451, it is a 10,000-ton transfer station originally designed to support long-distance freighters, survey ships, and mining operations. The station’s robust and versatile structure makes it ideal for the Marauders' needs.

Strategic Importance

Finland Station’s design, while common among Seegson platforms, has been significantly fortified to serve its new purpose. Its strategic position and robust infrastructure make it an ideal base for the Marauders. By blockading Perfected Proto-Hive planets and destroying any Perfected vessels, the Marauders use Finland Station as a launchpad for their aggressive containment strategy. The station’s facilities support their mission to purge navigation charts during colony raids, thereby preventing the Perfected from tracing a path back to Earth.

Architecture

Design and Configuration

The station retains the "tapering spire" design of its larger counterparts, featuring a wide, circular engineering base (A Deck) upon which are stacked nine increasingly smaller circular decks, for a total of ten. This design is typical of the small station layouts used in low-traffic regions and offers a balance of functionality and ease of relocation.

Deck Configuration
J Deck – Comms Platform: This deck is equipped with advanced communications and sensor systems, including a probe launching bay. It ensures the Marauders maintain constant vigilance over the surrounding space, scanning for any signs of the Perfected.   I Deck – Seegson Science Module: Initially intended for scientific research, this deck has been converted into tactical planning and analysis rooms. Former laboratories now serve as strategic command centers where missions are planned and data on the Perfected is analyzed.   H Deck – Gustafsson Science Module: Originally designed for scientific endeavors by Gustafsson Enterprise, this deck has been repurposed for intelligence gathering and covert operations. It houses sensitive equipment and serves as the nerve center for espionage activities.   G Deck – Upper Tower: This deck contains the operations center, officer quarters, and a communal dining area. As the command hub, it is the heart of the Marauders' strategic operations.   F Deck – Lower Tower: Home to the shuttle bay, fuel processors, and the station’s administrative center, this deck is crucial for the rapid deployment and interception missions that are vital to the Marauders' strategy.   E Deck – Hab Block: The living quarters for the Marauders, this deck provides standard accommodation cabins, recreational facilities, and the Drifters bar and grill. It serves as a morale-boosting social hub for the crew.   D Deck – Life Support Deck: Featuring a garden for sustenance and psychological well-being, this deck includes full air and water recycling systems. It ensures the long-term viability of the station’s inhabitants.   C Deck – Command Concourse: This deck is the heart of military operations, housing the main command center, briefing rooms, and tactical planning offices. It is the primary area where mission strategies are devised and coordinated.   B Deck – Cargo Deck: This deck stores essential supplies and armaments, with freight elevators connecting it to the Main Concourse. It also houses technical workshops for maintenance and upgrades.   A Deck – Engineering Platform: The foundation of the station, this deck contains the vital fusion reactor, coolant systems, and fuel reserves. It ensures the operational integrity of the entire station.
Key Features
Transit Tube: Running through the center of all decks, the Transit Tube houses two passenger elevators, emergency stairs, restrooms, and critical conduits and service pipes connecting the decks.
