THE NEW EARTH PLAGUE

The New Earth Plague is a highly infectious airborne flesh-eating bacteria that devastated the New Earth Colony in 2157. This deadly pathogen, known for its swift and brutal attack on the human body, caused a catastrophic quarantine and subsequent purge of the colony. With a virulence that strikes fear across the galaxy and no known cure, the plague remains one of the most dreaded diseases known to humankind.

Infection and Symptoms

Upon inhalation, the New Earth Plague bacteria immediately begin necrotising the lungs, spreading rapidly throughout the body via the circulatory system. The infection's onset is swift, with symptoms manifesting quickly. Initially, victims experience severe respiratory distress, accompanied by bloating and a purple mottling of the skin. These early signs are harbingers of the grim fate awaiting the infected.   Soon after, the external flesh begins to rot, resulting in blotches that emit a putrid odour. The bacteria continue their relentless assault, consuming tissue and spreading decay at an alarming rate. The pain is excruciating as the body deteriorates from the inside out. The progression is rapid, leading to significant tissue loss, systemic failure, and, ultimately, death within a few Shifts. The horrific suffering of the victims underscores the plague's reputation as one of the most brutal infections known.

Containment and Impact

In 2157, the outbreak of the New Earth Plague prompted extreme measures. The entire New Earth Colony was placed under quarantine, desperately trying to contain the infection. Despite these efforts, the plague's virulence proved too formidable, necessitating a purge to prevent its spread. The decision to purge the colony was made with a heavy heart but was deemed necessary to save the broader population from the plague's devastating effects.   The plague's extreme virulence highlights its aggressive and contagious nature. Its ability to spread through the air and its devastating impact on the human body make it one of the most feared pathogens. The plague claimed millions of lives, decimating the population of the New Earth Colony. The scale of the tragedy was unprecedented, leaving a legacy of death and sorrow that haunts the survivors and the broader human community.   The plague is believed to be contained within the HD85512 system to prevent further outbreaks, where strict quarantine protocols remain. Travel to and from the system is heavily regulated, with any suspected cases immediately isolated. Despite these precautions, the fear of a resurgence lingers, and the system is closely monitored for signs of the plague escaping its confines.

Current Status

Years have passed since the initial outbreak, yet no known cure for the New Earth Plague remains. Ongoing research has been met with frustration as the bacteria's resilience and adaptability thwart all efforts to develop effective treatments. The fear of the plague persists, especially in the HD85512 system, where the disease is believed to be contained. Quarantine protocols and heavy regulations on travel aim to prevent any chance of the bacteria spreading.   The New Earth Plague is a grim testament to the dangers lurking in space's far reaches. Its legacy is marked by death, despair, and the ongoing struggle to prevent a similar catastrophe. The tragic fate of the New Earth Colony serves as a cautionary tale for all who venture into the unknown, highlighting the need for vigilance, preparedness, and a relentless pursuit of medical advancements.
