Avatars are near God-like beings that each maintain a fundamental part of Fund's world such as inner workings of planar travel to the physical bonds that hold the planet of Fund together
Each one also has the ability to bestow part of their powers to a mortal to either help maintain the world or help progress some other goal
There are an unknown number of Avatars, but 5 of them have become prevalent within Fund's culture, with 4 of them helping to found the modern countries of Fund
