Item 99 - Special Fried Rice

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Item 99 is tougher than a usual cardboard carton - he has survived centuries and his rice is still steamy and fresh - but he has some issues surviving full-on combat, much preferring to influence matters from the shadows.   Lacking legs, he is also highly dependent on other people’s ‘help’ to move around.

Special abilities

Item 99 makes his way in the world by exerting low-level psychological influence on those around him. He struggles to bring about huge and out of character changes in his victims (murder etc.), but is extremely powerful when it comes to low-level suggestion. He has spent the centuries of his cardboard box existence quietly suggesting that people carry him to places he wants to be, and has become a highly effective espionage agent as a result. Item 99’s psychological influence manifests in an ability to persuade his victims to pick him up, move him, take him home, or to undertake simple physical tasks that he wants them to - opening doors, turning around, switching off lights - or unloading their gun.

Personal history

Kowloon, 1984. An aged triad boss is chowing down in his favourite family-run restaurant when a squad of goons kick down the door and redecorate the walls with his brains. These assassins showed an attitude to collateral damage and ammunition conservation in line with the finest teachings of John Woo, and put a bullet hole in every man, woman, child, flat surface, and priceless urn in the place.   One of these urns, hidden on a dusty shelf of spices, contained the malevolent soul of a 4th century Chinese sorcerer, his name lost to the mists of time and his reasoning addled.   Torn violently free from his prison, this dark soul immediately took sanctuary in the closest receptacle he could see: a cardboard takeaway box containing a medium serving of menu item 99 - Special Fried Rice.
