The Babelarcon

The Babelarcon is an encyclopedia on the languages and linguistics of Fyrra. The original version of the Babelarcon was written by Rosetta Espera between 275 and 295 DC and published in 296 DC. Initially it was supposed to be a document for the translation of important trading terms from various languages of the world into the language of the The Dunarian Caravan, Ashitari. Later versions of the Babelarcon included all kinds of vocabulary. Nowadays it is a collective bookseries that covers translations and teachings from all Fyrran languages.

Historical Importance

The Babelarcon was intially written by Rosetta Espera, member of the The Dunarian School, to facilitate the trade of the Dunarian Caravan by collecting and systemizing translations of key terms for trading. Espera, who was an enthusiast follower of the Dunarian philosophy, later widened the material scope of the Babelarcon. Spreading knowledge and trade was only possible if people had common means to communicate.
Over the span of 20 cycles, she collected and organized more and more translations of Fyrran languages into Ashitari. In 296 DC the Babelarcon was first published for the wider public. Due to the prevalence of Ashitari as a language for trade, it already was taught as a second or third language in most of the world. Thanks to the systematic and straightforward teaching methods of Ashitari in the Babelarcon, Ashitari became even more widespread and is now the common tongue in Fyrra.
