Antreia
The continent of Antreia is a continent of bustling cities, magical forests, grand adventures and dangerous beasts. To the Antreians, the continent is their only home, which it has been for thousands of years, and much of the world beyond the untamed oceans surrounding it, is completely unknown to the common man. The continent is divided into two regions and two competing factions; the allied Northern Kingdoms of the north, and the Ibirian Empire of the south. The North is divided into kingdoms and countries, where the climate is temperate, and the people you meet are as varied as the seasons. The South, on the other hand, is a place where nature is untamed and brimming with magic, and the people are united and hard-working, towards their common goals.
Geography
Antreia is located in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet of Gaea. Much of the rest of the planet is unknown, making exact placements difficult. Ibirian scholars however, have concluded with precise calculations that the continent is placed around 1000km north of the planet's equator, and that it is located fairly close to the planet's northern pole. As the continent stretches both far north and far south, the climate and geography of Antreia is wildly different in its northernmost parts and its southernmost. In the Northern Kingdoms you will find a varied but temperate climate, with harsh winters and brief summers in the far north, cold winters and mild summers in the middle regions, and milder winters and warm summers in the south. The continent's southern region of Ibira consists of warmer summers and brief winters in the northernmost parts, warm temperatures and less seasonal variation in the middle regions and scorching summers and hot year-round weather in its south.
Magical abundance is found throughout the entirety of the continent, but it is a known fact that Ibira have more plentiful natural mana sources than the North. Due to this temperatures are higher in Ibira, flora and fauna is more varied and extreme weather is more often seen. The North has however seen more unexplained magical phenomenon in the last thousand years than before, partly due to weakening of the veil through magical experiments done by the elves, as well as more recently being the location of where the Lunar Cataclysm hit, which attributed to a massive spike in recorded aetheric energy in the surrounding areas, what is today known as The Dustlands, especially.
Antreia is a continent of several larger mountain ranges both in the North and in the South. The largest mountain being **** located in the **** range reaching through large portions of middle Ibira. Generally speaking however, higher altitudes and rocky areas are more seen in the north than in the south but this is highly dependent on the kingdoms and districts one finds themselves in.
Fauna & Flora
Antreian flora and fauna is diverse, but can generally be divided into three groups based on the temperatures and environment where they live. In the colder northern part of the continent, as well as in higher altitudes flora is less varied while the animals are specialized to tackle cold temperatures. Thick fur and hulking bodies with an abundance of lard and fat are characteristics commonly seen. In the more temperate to warm zones, animals and flora alike are wildly varied in their appearance. You will be able to spot any animal from the gryphon to the behir in the temperate zones of Antreia, and plants take up much of the geographical space, growing and thriving most everywhere. This is also attributed to the fact that areas around Callimoria and Calen have an unusually thin veil between the feywilds and the material plane, which leads to natural variation among the flora and fauna which is not found anywhere else. Lastly, the tropical areas of Antreia are home to animals and plants which are wildly different from the species found in the north. The characteristics of these species is their adaptability to humid, dry, and/or scorching temperatures. Many are poisenous or have unusual, magical abilities, and small species, like an abundance of insects in the jungles of Ibira, are particularily common.
Natural Resources
Antreia is a rich continent of abundant natural resources. This is especially true in the south, where minerals, mana crystals, precious stones, plentiful meat and fruits, and fibers from plants can be found. The north can be categorized by a higher affluence of grain, domestic meats, wool and other fabrics from domestic fauna, metals like bronze and silver, timber and coal which are all important to the area's economics.
History
Antreia was created millions of years ago when the elemental chaos was purged and The Gods of the known world created the New Gaea. Exactly when the continent appeared as it does today is somewhat unclear, but what is certain is that it has survived through history as a hub of culture and power on the planet. All through the rule of The First Children, the War of the Titans, the birth of the Known Races and the Lunar Cataclysm, Antreia has prevailed and thrived, growing into a continent of deep cultural history with scars from ages past.
