Corsair League of Yatangar
Once a province of the mighty Barikian-Empire, the island of Yatangar was a place where the various rulers of the ancient Al´Rawatu-Dynasty constructed great cities in order to preserve the glory and legacy of their name. Over 300 years after the collapse of the Empire and the fall of the House of AlRawatu the island has become a haven for outcasts, cutthroats, ambitious adventurers and most of all pirates or as them call themselves on Yatangar – Corsairs.
The walls of the five old great cities of Alkazar, Quafalaz, Alhafa, Kasabal and Aljanub may still stand strong to this day but can these once proud
cities no longer be considered places of great learning, fine craftsmanship and bussling commerce.
Now the streets are filled with all kinds of dubious and dangerous people who seek to spend all their bloody earned coin in taverns, whore-houses and other places of debauchery. Much to the dismay of the few honest and hardworking folk that strive to return to the rumored old glory of their lands.
Still there is some order to this seeming total chaos, that the High Council of the Corsair League sees to. The seven mightiest Corsair-Captains hold a loose rule over the island in a tense union, seeking to contain the chaos and unite the disorganized masses of hardened bastards that the call their subjects, whenever a neighboring power tries to get rid of the Corsair-Plague for good. Despite the rough and dangerous way of the life on Yatangar arrive new outsiders everyday on the island. Some are brought there against their will as captured slaves from the latest raids or flee to the island because they have no home to return to, while plenty of others seek out the island out of their own volition. For it does not matter under what circumstances you where born or what your life was like before arriving on these wild shores. With enough ambition, cunning, ruthlessness and a touch of luck everybody can come to great riches and power within the Corsair society, as long as their lifetime isn´t cut short by their comrades or the cruel hands of fate.
This steady influx of new peoples and fluid distribution of power means that the Corsair culture is everchanging and adapting.

History
For centuries the Sultanate of Yatangar was part of the greater Barikian Empire, ruled over by the old and powerful Al´Rawatu-Dynasty. House of Al´Rawatu established themselves in the beginning of the Third Age and overtime conquered and united the far reaching land of the Barikian-Coasts, Khalud-Desert and Mbali-Plain.
All this ended around the year 400 of the Third Age, when the catastrophic StarPlague was released from ancient sealed of dwarven city. The Plague raged throughout the Empire, killing around half of the total population no matter if they were a lowly slave or powerful Kaliph. While the devasted empire might still have survived this unfathomable loss of life, did the plague leave the empire very vulnerable. This is when the mountain underneath the capital city of Maqaralsul erupted into fire and smoke. The giant volcano completely wiped out the biggest human built city on the Summersea within mere minutes and spew forth seemingly unending clouds of black smoke that chocked the sunlight in the region for almost two centuries.
Death, disease and famine lead the once proud and untited people to turn on each other for survival and war broke out all across out the widespread lands of the empire. It wasn´t until the year 517 of the Third Age that the populace of Yatangar saw a glimmer of hope, when Admiral Khadin Al´Mubarak emerges on the pages of history. As one of the many warlords that ruled after the fall of the empire, Khadin was the first to successfully consilidate his power long enough to form the Alkazian Brotherhood within the old ruined city of Alkazar. With his band of captains and warriors he managed to return order and structure to the anarchy. He united the old cities under his rule and when he was done, he let the people of each city choose their leader and turned his power over to these choosen Sheiks forming the Republic of Yatangar in the year 534 of the Third Age. After this transistion of power Khadin and the Brotherhood devoted themselves to protecting the Republic against foreign raiders and making sure each Sheiks successor was also an elected official by the citizens of their respective communtiy. After Khadins death the Brotherhood upheld the work of their founder, though as time went on the system became corrupt and elections where won by bribes, threats and assassination, which once again divided the people of Yatangar.
It is under these circumstances that a young whore turned captain under the name of Yadira Al´Rahiba overthrew the Sheik of Aljanub and took power for herself in the year 628 of the Third Age. Within 13 years she took over the rest of the island in a bloody conquest whilst consilidation the power around herself and her trusted captains until finally in the year 641 of the Third Age she crowned herself as the Corsair-Queen of Yatangar.
Her rule was led with an iron fist and rebellions were put down swiftly and brutally until no one dared to question her authority. While this rule of terror left many inhabitants of the island hanging from the gallows, it also allowed Yadira to unite the squabbeling captains into her infamous Dread-Fleet with which she successfully defended the island against numerous invasions from the newly formed Sultanetes to the east. At the same time Yadira personally led her terrifying fleet on dozens of pillaging campaigns which brought back great riches and prosperity to the lands of Yatangar. Under her rule the Corsair-Kingdom became a powerful force in the region, one that many neighboring kingdoms and cities on the Summersea paid high tributes to, in order to be spared from any future raids. Four centuries years into her rule the now elderly queen suddenly vanished together with her flagship in one night. The sudden power vacuum lead to infighting amongst her once loyal captains and family members and the kingdom was thrust into a century of civil war as powerful captains vied for influence and once oppressed people sought to fight of their shackles. Finally in the year 696 of the Third Age seven of the most powerful captains came togehter for a meeting in Alkazar, where they deciced to form the High Council of the Corsair League. Together they laid down common rules and laws in the Corsair Code of Conduct in order to return order to the island and preserving the Corsair way of life. It took some time to quell the unrest across Yatangar and convince the other captains either by coin or by sword to sign the Code but in the end the High Council managed to somewhat restore order to the newly formed Corsair-League. This unity would come to pay itself off when in the Year 722 of the Third Age an alliance of the Aridian Federation and the three Sultanates of Tuzhar, Anjirafat and Alhudi began an invasion of Yatangar in order to stomp out the new Corsair-threat. In what would become to be know as the War of the Bleeding Seas the united Corsair fleets managed to fight off the enemy alliance and after three years of brutal naval and land combat achieved a white peace in which their neighbors recognized the sovereignty of the Corsair League.
