Avilès
Avilès is a small but crowded and lively settlement located in and around an early historical caravanserai located near the border of the Free Cities and Duria Dynasty.
Demographics
Avilès' population has a multiethnic structure. The people living here are mostly shopkeepers in the caravanserai, artisans and craftsmen and their families. In addition to them, the temple acolytes, a small number of farming families, and the families of the soldiers serving in the border garrison, if any, are also among the inhabitants of Avilès.
Government
Caravanserai, like all other settlements in Duria territory, is legally and administratively dependent on the kingdom. On the other hand, specifically for Avilès' case, unlike other villages and towns, the caravanserai chief is responsible for the administration, not the mayor. Avilès, the first stop of the trade caravans at the entrance to the Duria Dynasty and the last stop at the exit, has a very heavy traffic of people and goods. In this sense, the caravanserai manager works just like a port or dock supervisor. The administration is responsible for arbitrating the shopping and barter transactions, ensuring the security of the goods left in the warehouses, fulfilling the rights and wishes of the local people, and ensuring general peace - especially between the local people and passenger merchant groups.
Industry & Trade
The main livelihood of the town is the service sector provided to passengers passing by. The only inn of the caravanserai is at the top of these services, while the others are blacksmiths, tailors, food and material shops, herbalists, stables and so on. In Avilès, the flow of goods to businesses other than the ones that in-house production is made - such as supply shops, is provided by the trade caravans passing through the town. For this reason, barter is as popular as selling for money in Aviles, and itinerant merchants see it not only as a resting place but also as a sales opportunity.
Infrastructure
Avilès was established in a historical caravanserai structure, and over time, the settlement took its final form with the articulation of large and small additional buildings to the main building and its immediate surroundings.
Architecture
The caravanserai-town, an imposing stone structure that looks like a castle from the outside, has a closed structure in the shape of an introverted "O". The entrance to the town is made through the gates located in the center of the east, south and west walls of the building - the gate in the south is the original gate of the building, and gates in other directions were opened later due to need. The East Gate is used as the main gate today and there are buildings such as warehouse, barn and military station outside the gate. The Western Gate leads to a small village inhabited by local people overlooking the forest area.
